Birdy

Birdy

An intriguing film score created for a film by Alan Parker. .Gabriel utilises both existing material, remixing, editing, and adding to as needed, after stripping away the vocals, and newly recorded pieces. The result is at once both familiar and different, an album with haunting passages that demand a closer listen.

"I've always loved film music and at aged 17 I had a choice really of going to the London School of Film Technique or following a career as a musician."

"And when I had an invitation from Alan Parker to work on Birdie that was exciting for me and both he and Scorcese? who I worked with in the Last Temptation of Christ are are musical directors who really, you know, care and feel the music that they work with."

"Birdie is not a very well known film but I think is very strong and it's quite claustrophobic at times and very atmospheric so it was a great opportunity to work with different textures and moods."

"Birdie was also because I didn't have a lot of time and notoriously slow was my chance to recycle some stuff as well as create new . I've always liked the opportunity to try manipulating musical ideas in different ways."

"David Rhodes and Ferrendes also introduced me to Daniel Lanois and developed a much stronger relationship with Dan and we went on to do 2 other records after Birdie. Dan also introduced me to David Bottrill or just "The Bottrill" as he was known at that point."
