Released 23rd March, 1987The third single to be taken from Peter’s fifth solo album So, Big Time was released on 23 March 1987.
Written by Peter Gabriel, the song was produced by Daniel Lanois and Peter and engineered by Kevin Killen and Lanois. Big Time extended remix by Tom Lord Alge.
The cover was designed by Peter Saville and Brett Wickens for Peter Saville Associates, with photography by Trevor Key.
The single first charted in the UK on 29 March 1987, peaked at 13 and stayed in the Top75 for 9 weeks. In the USA Big Time was a top 10 hit on the Hot 100, reaching #8 on 7 March 1987 and eventually spending 23 weeks on the chart.
The accompanying video for Big Time was directed by Stephen R Johnson, who had previously directed the Sledgehammer video to universal acclaim, and was produced by Prudence Fenton. Production design by Wayne Wright and animation and special effects by David Daniels, Peter Wallach, Bill Wright, Spencer Cook, Robert Lyons, Susan Pitt, Michael Sullivan, Tom McLaughlin, Rob Niosi and Joe Castellano.
