On Thursday 19 May, Peter was awarded the Ivors Academy highest accolade, the Academy Fellowship. The Ivors Academy is the UK’s independent professional association for music creators and their awards, The Ivors, is where Ivor Novello Awards are presented to recognise creative excellence in UK and Irish songwriting and screen composition.
The awards, hosted by Paul Gambaccini, took place at the Grosvenor Hotel in London, with other awards going to Paul Heaton (Outstanding Song Collection), Robert Smith and Simon Gallup (Icon Award), Cocteau Twins (Visionary Award), Shakira (Special International Award), Pink Noise (Best Album – Laura Mvula) and I Love You, I Hate You (Best Contemporary Song – Little Simz). Peter’s award was presented by comedian Peter Kay, who gave a hilarious speech that recounted his personal connection to Peter’s music that had begun with the album Birdy, which he’d taped from a friend at school..
