Drummers have often been my way into a band and drummers who can find the perfect groove and sit on it, with no need to show off, have always pulled me right inside their music.
It is a really hard thing to do well and much underrated. Charlie was an elegant, generous and modest musician and brilliantly provided the living, rhythmic foundation on which so much of this soundtrack to our lives was built.
