Plant a wild flower meadow and climb trees with his son. At least that would have a lasting effect unlike doing models, which is just a quick fix really

OK, have shared the Adler After Dark for adults, for a traveling or 'staycation' family, they also have monthly sleep overs for kids and their parents. It is geared towards for kids between 6 and 10. http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/plan/group/overnights They do have an option for those less adventurous that don't want to sleep overnight in the museum also.
Actually I think all of the Major Museums in Chicago have sleep over or at least after hour programs for kids and their parents.
