Just seen the letter from Peter on the news page regarding fans concerns about the SO boxset.Stinks of desperation to me.I think the sales figures of this boxset will reflect what alot of fans are thinking.Unforgivable,POV just on DVD and not on BLURAY.

I just read the letter also , makes perfect sense to me , I don't feel PG or his team have to apologise for anything , sure I wish they had a blu ray in there but the explanation is a perfectly good one and as he said a lot of people will have worked hard on this stuff . I for one am looking forward to hearing / seeing it .
Buy it or not we all have a choice , I will be buying it for sure

Chawin - I think 'stinks of desperation' is a bit much. I'm glad PG has addressed this personally and admits that they might have got it slightly wrong with the DVD vs. Blu-ray issue. Personally I think this whole thing has snowballed out of all proportion. It's obvious that PG and his team have spent ages on this - the So DNA disc sounds really exciting to me and, as PG says, is unlike anything normally included in box sets of this type. I'd love there to be a pause in this discussion (and bitching!) until people can hear and see it for themselves. It's getting kind of tiresome now...

For the sake and simplicity of collecting the associated tracks on an additional disc, I'm surprised this idea was dropped, but perhaps Peter didn't feel they held together very strongly and maybe didn't realise the demand for them, the focus being primarily on the album. I think from the fan perspective, it was more the opportunity to get good quality versions if those songs together on CD for the first time (rather than tracking down original copies with low sound levels, bootleg compilations etc).
We either buy one of the versions or we don't, nobody's forcing us. The DNA disc does sound very interesting - it would have been good if the kind of description Peter gives it in his letter, was in the product description from the outset.
I certainly don't doubt the quality of product or work that went in to it - that sort of thing shouldn't need justifying.

i consider the matter of the box set resolved. mr. gabriel far exceeded my expectations in his letter. he demonstrated great respect to all fans. this will be the last time i post on this thread.
to my critics: i am not infantile. i am not a spoiled brat. i am not even a moody arse. be warned, i will not take kindly to name-calling again.
to my #1 fan: my youtube channel did not deserve 350+ "dislikes" just because you did not like what i was saying here in the forums. next time, please join the discussions.

I never understood what the big hulabaloo was about to begin with but then again I'm not as savy as some about different versions of songs, songs that have not been released, the different formats etc... I'm just a fan and if I had the money I would purchase the box set as is.

Well, I guess the hulabaloo came from the huge expectation that grew in anticipation of this re-release, in combination with everything else to do with time passing and the absence of new material. I expect that there will be different individual likes/dislikes about SO 25, but for me it's the fact that £80+ is a lot to pay for POV on DVD and the SO DNA - I don't want a book or vinyl - I don't even want a fourth copy of So.

THANK YOU, PETER GABRIEL!!! Class act, as always. It was not necessary for you to do such a letter, but I'm glad to see that you do really care about what fans (or otherwise) think.
Like Mozo-- this is so done for me. While I might add a last comment on each of the every critical thread, the overall tone and subject has been completely finished for me ( basically since it began).
My box set has been pre-ordered, I'm looking forward to it all.
Now, onto the next discussion . . .

It's very nice PG took the time to respond. I appreciate.
If there is so much demand for PoV, I think it would have probably been much wiser to release it as a separate product, with choice to buy either DVD or BlueRay. And not force everyone who wants it to buy the whole box.
Also I understand he hasn't many unreleased tracks to add, but he could have easily made a full CD with the 3 unreleased from the vinyl + Don't Break this rhythm, Walk through the fire, In your eyes (long) and Curtains.
Is it that difficult ?
Anyway, thank you for the reply.
