What? the media sensationalize something? Don't believe it.
Suicide is a bad choice, but it is a choice and is only made by people who feel they have no other choice. Whether real or imagined, doesn't matter, its the loss of all hope. Obviously despite the challenges that Phil was feeling at the time that got him to even consider it, he never lost all hope. Good for you Phil.
What is really sad is the people that feel they need to take others with them when they get to that point.
As for lemmings, I've always wondered if there weren't cliffs there before the over the cliff behavior began. In other words following a trail that no longer exists. Strange in anyway.

Not trying to go off topic here but I thought I'd better share this knowledge with you. . .
The lemming thing is mostly a myth, nobody knows how old it is but the popularizartion of it can be traced back to 1958 when Disney made a documentary called White Wilderness where they faked a lemming suicide scene.
Truth is, lemmings don't really suicide, however, they migrate in large amounts all at once and casualties may occur when some are pushed to the edge of the cliffs or fall in waters too wide to swim without exhaustion.
