Hi,here some observations from an interesting article: "One upon a time there were revolution, disobedience, transgression. Today youthful music is appearance, conventionalism. Is it the end of pure instinct? Is it the end of myth?" What do you think?

I think this is a vey interesting thread DV. My (drummer) daughter and her band, and all her band friends, are very well- behaved (compared with me and my husband's generation of garage musicians). They are very concerned with appearence and fitting in.

Personally, I think music is on a downward spiral, everyone is into musical instant gratification, not wanting to put the time in and really craft their talent. Very sad.

I agree that there are many bands that fit that description. One word. Vocoder.

Everything happens in cycles - whether its music trends, fashion, values - a lot of the pop music of the 1950's and early 1960's also celebrated fitting in and behaving nicely. Today's trends will swing back. In 20 years, everyone will be imitating PG.

Thanks for your answers,i didn't read, because i thought no one answer. . . :-] Ok,back to topic, maybe the subject is too big,but i think there is something true. . . I agree with you all,but at the same time i say: when i watch videos of "old" Artists ( i use " because their Music is absolutely NOT "old",like Beatles, for example), i feel and see originality, fantasy, enthusiasm and authenticity. Maybe there was a new world to discovery (especially for Music),maybe they had the desire to break with the past of conventionalism, maybe young Artist were left alone with their pure talent and free to experiment. . . i dont' know. . .just only small thougts. . . . .

Maybe I'm too young to speak, but I think the the good time of rock, with all these fantastic bands and artists, has long gone. Not that there isn't some good music today. But the CREATIVE time of rock has gone, and too sad that I wasn't around in 70's.

The Who - Long Live Rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-S5aVuKsgI Down at the Astoria the scene was changing, Bingo and rock were pushing out X-rating, We were the first band to vomit in the bar, And find the distance to the stage too far, Meanwhile it's getting late at ten o'clock, Rock is dead they say, Long live rock. Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive. People walk in sideways pretending that they're leaving, We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins, Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in Hong Kong, Promoter's in the pay box wondering where the band's gone, Back in the pub the governor stops the clock, Rock is dead, they say, Long live rock. Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive. Landslide, rocks are falling, Falling down 'round our very heads, We tried but you were yawning, Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead. The place is really jumping to the Hiwatt amps, 'Til a 20-inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps, In the blackout they dance right into the aisle, And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles, Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock, Rock is dead, they say, Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock. Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock, Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock. Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive

what is needed is a person who can mimic several styles from prog to heavy metal and melt them into something new. a miracle out of nowhere.

I apologize, I didn't use the right words.I think that the "old" rock never dies, only the people who don't listen to it :-]

anybody remember the dark days when disco was taking over and even some of the best rockers put out disco records - Rod Stewart for one But rock survived and disco died, thank the gods

I thought Ezri was a really good name. Disco hasn't died, just mutated into a more mellow and self-mocking form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xui7x_KF7bY
