First of all, stop bashing the "Angry Nostalgics," I'm really getting tired of that. As hard as it may be to some people here to accept here, there are some that do not care for the covers album. So the ones that seem to be offended by those who don't like it need to get over that just as much as the angry people not happy with PG not showing up to the hall of fame.
Though I must agree, WHO CARES IF HE'S NOT THERE. He. left. the. band!! He's rehearsing for a series of shows, and knowing how much of a perfectionist he is and how frequently he runs behind, he has a legitimate reason to not be there. Frankly, I'd be amazed if he's finished arranging just ONE of his songs for the shows by today.
PG loves his solo fans, in spite of what some here seem to think. He's always done things his way with his work and accomplished success one can only dream of based on decisions he made, not giving into easy (for lack of a better word) demand. So the fans that responded to his work of course he loves because we've loved what's he's done. Why else would he let fans choose the set lists for the 2001 WOMAD show and the 2007 warm up tour; and also make utterly ridiculous remixes of his songs (though that is another story for another day.)

Plus, he did NOT "use" the other 4 remaining members for the 1982 reunion tour. He originally did not want to do it; and when the remaining 3 members offered him free money from 1 of their shows during the ABACAB tour, he absolutely refused. Tony Smith and the other 4 members had to convince him to do ONE show rather than giving into his pride and going broke. For those who own or have heard the concert, before Firth of Fifth begins, he doesn't immediately go into a story, nor talk about how he feels about the band, nor their history, he talks (and practically advertises) WOMAD. Thus indicating he moved on. Mike Rutherford himself in the press book given out at the show says the exact same thing. When the show began, he came out of a coffin, and when the show ended, he went back into the coffin. That was NOT an accident.
Sure, I didn't really like that only the 3 "reunited" in what was essentially a redux of the We Can't Dance tour; but one day, he might reunite with them. (Besides, from what I can understand, the 5 man reunion would have only been 4 or 5 shows, similar to the snobby reunion Cream gave that really only gave access to celebrities in getting tickets.) He still wants to make a film version of The Lamb with a now 81 year old filmmaker. Plus the other 4 have made very clear their desire to work with him again. Like Phil Collins said though, PG is overly cautious of going back to the past. So that is something he needs to work out and decide for himself. Bottom line, he's not sitting around doing nothing like before. Nor is he talking about a The Elders (a wonderful charity I feel, let me emphasize) and bragging about how he's friends with Nelson Mandela, nor looking at the sky doing research on different types of full moons, nor giving pointless interviews about the latest technology, he's doing what we've always loved from him and what he does best: MUSIC.
Yes, I was very disappointed that he chose to do a covers album (no matter what he approach he took to it) rather than releasing SON OF OVO, I/O or even making ANOTHER TONGUE; and I really am not a fan of it nor the tribute album songs that have been released so far. However, we've always loved PG for his risks and have always been surprised and fallen in love with the results of those risks. He's doing music, so ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS.
I shouldn't have to go on a soapbox, but DAMN!
