Director of tons of the 80's and 90's best "youth" movies, John died today of a heart attack while taking a morning walk.
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "The Breakfast Club", "16 Candles", are just a few of the greats he directed. Lots of funny films with teen themes.
Goodbye, John

Just heard that. Very sad, too young.
As a footnote, grew up next door to the guy who wrote the song 16 Candles and I'll tell you, he would have been the last person on the planet I would have ever suspected to write such a sweet song. Conversely, his wife was such a nice lady, so perhaps.

Not many John Hughes fans out there I guess.
Thanks for responding Zenrider. I'll miss his whacky sense of humor and the fact that he could make a very funny movie without blatant sex and cursing. I ain't no prude by a long shot but he did a great job.

Very sad to hear of his passing - he was a great filmmaker. One of my personal favs was "Planes, Trains and Automobiles."

The first time I saw this movie I was really sick and home with the flu! Let me just say that much laughter filled the room while watching! A couple weeks ago my 11 year old son was home sick and watching TV lying on the sofa. When I entered the room guess what he was watching?! It brought back memories!! : )

That's very sad. May he rest in peace.
I must say I've only seen Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club. But I really loved Breakfast Club, especially the hilarious characters of John Bender and the janitor Carl. This movie is older than me, but strangely enough I'm way much more into stuff that happend before my birth than what came afterwards.
I have yet to watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off and all of the other John Hughes movies. I already wanted to see them for a long time.
Sad news, but at least he didn't have to die in hospital but while doing something nice. I think I'd rather want to die suddenly too. Again, R.I.P. John Hughes.
