Paul Cronin Rael722 8 August 2008 at 5:28pm Posts: 829 (0 today) Status: offline
Review provided via Crimsoncast: Requested by Piper Bones Jones ( James Farrelly) The King Crimson 40th Anniversary Tour Nashville - 08/02,03 Chicago ? 08/06,07,08 Philadelphia ? 08/11,12 New York ? 14,15,16,17 Crimson incarnation 2008 = Robert Fripp ? Guitar and sound scapes Adrian Belew ? Guitar with the forbidden sounds of time and vocals Tony Levin ? Stick bass, funk fingers bass and vocals Gavin Harrison ? Drums with added percussive disciplines Pat Mastelotto ? Caged Drumming with untold sound phantoms The venue: The Park west Chicago, IL. Seating approx 1,400 ? General admission doors open @ 6pm - Show Time 7:30 sharp. All three shows Sold Out A beautiful Simpson skies Chicago night no humidity to wet your brow. The Crowd very generous in their Crimson red attire - very gentle in manner and excited by the upcoming event. Fripp sound scapes were playing as the venue filled and began its excitement level 5. Attendees from all over the Central US and oversea area were in line for this event. Many with a English accent. Tony has posted photos = http://www.tonylevin.com/ 60 foot towers of sound on each side of the stage enough to drown out a jet take off. Drummers encaged in Plexiglas cages so to not damage the players Pat on the left and Gavin on the right Fripp on the right behind his solar voyager sound system playing Fernandez Monteray Elite with sustainer - used also by Steve Hackett. Belew center stage with bouncy chair for extended support using his new Adrian (Silver) Belew endorsed Parker hi fly guitar ? no Fender Strats to be seen - sniff sniff. Tony "Tbaldy" Levin to the right of the stage with Chapman amazing stick and Tony Levin endorsed Bass + funk finger sticks for bouncy clicky bass picking. Set list will not be revealed - all that I will say it has all the energy every Crimson show I attended + 10. They were just stunning ? Tony with the band was suuuuch a treat to see again. The 80?s incarnation of Crimson was born from his bass movements in many cases. Belew?s voice in just perfect shape ? so terrifying at time but then soft delicate in others - his guitar unmatched by any player in this time frame. The two-drummer profile again was a win win situation not seen sine the Genesis era of two drummers ? just a great interplay of the beat masters. Fripp of course what can I say but one of the true Masters of mystic and guitar craft. His hands at time a blur due to his arpeggios and slurs with lighting skysaw sounds. If you have opportunity to attend due so or you will hate yourself for not going. Attendies = Rev Bob Uncle Jeff My wife Carolyn and myself T?was very good to see you again Bob and I look forward to our next meeting possibly for the TOTT shows with. The Muscial Box or maybe David Byrne and Eno - sooner is better as the Guinness?s we shared together went down sooo good but toooo fast dear friend. Celebrity sittings at the show were as followed: Yusaf Islam Todd Rundgren Pete Townshed Baryshnikov Ian Anderson Michael MacDonald Wang of Wang Chung Beyond War, Paul

Thanks, Paul. I guess I better rest up for a road trip. It seems to me this may be the last time they fly. J

James you are very welcome - I am going down to the venue tonight again to see if I can find a spare - wish me luck. And its realy hard to tell when the Steam Roller of Sound will stop rolling - I know that Robert has back issues but has since had some relief via Tai Chi and a back doctor so one can never tell. Peace, Paul

I LOVE King Crimson. Robert Fripp is a guitar god. I might be going to NY next week to see them. . .hopefully. And I hope they extend their tour some more.

Not much to add, Paul's pretty much covered it. It was an amazing show, made all the better by the company kept. If you get the chance, go.
