yes, yes, yes. . . we all know about the movies where the word nigger is used. and my kids use the word to say "what's up" sometimes, much to my dislike. it's a word i don't like them using. somehow it has become acceptable in the some of the young black culture. it seems ok when used "black on black". don't ask me why.
BUT. . . to start up a thread like this. . . i don't know. . . maybe sjef needs to explain why he did it.

Sorry kidz, i am afraid context is everything. One has to ask oneself just what is the point of this sketch completely out of context and posted on this forum of all places. Sjef has made racist remarks before. I call 'em like i see 'em.
This is not really meant as an indictment of the "N-word". Though it remains controversial, i do understand how and why segments of the black community have taken this derogatory term and made it there own. Gays have done the same thing with the word "fag" and the founding fathers here in the States did it with the song Yankee Doodle Dandy. But this doesn't seem to be Sjef's motivation.
As the old Special's song goes:
"If you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to end
Be it your sister
Be it your brother
Be it your cousin or your, uncle or your lover
If you have a racist friend
now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to end
Be it your best friend
Or any other
Is it your husband or your father or your mother?
Tell them to change their views
Or change their friends
Now is the time, now is the time, for your friendship to end
So if you know a racist who thinks he is your friend
Now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to end
Call yourself my friend?
Now is the time to make up your mind, don't try to pretend
Be it your sister
Be it your brother
Be it your cousin or your uncle or your lover
So if you are a racist
Our friendship has got to end
And if your friends are racists don't pretend to be my friend
So if you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time for our friendship to end
GOODBYE "

Your Racist Friend
This is where the party ends
I can't stand here listening to you
And your racist friend
I know politics bore you
But I feel like a hypocrite talking to you
And your racist friend
It was the loveliest party that I've ever attended
If anything was broken I'm sure it could be mended
My head can't tolerate this bobbing and pretending
Listen to some bullet-head and the madness that he's saying
This is where the party ends
I'll just sit here wondering how you
Can stand by your racist friend
I know politics bore you
But I feel like a hypocrite talking to you
You and your racist friend
Out from the kitchen to the bedroom to the hallway
Your friend apologizes, he could see it my way
He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking
Can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding

wow agree gotta be said things that were funny at the time are now certainly cringe-inducing - this is of them
I know certain ages still see nothing wrong with the wording, for example: a few months ago at ork I was wearing chocolate brown trousers and one of my work collegues (he was in his late 60's beyond retirement age - he was just one of our drivers) said they were n****r brown. I really cringed when he said that, but he just didnt seem to get that language isnt acceptable anymore as he was from a different age.
When I was younger I used to really enjoy watching 'in sickness and in health' - now I cringe at the very thought of the programme; times and attitudes change, I fail to see why this posting was made in the first place, as said the 'sorry' in the title of this thread, the poster would know of the significance of 'that' word - so I ask if you knwo and you know how people now feel about 'that' word - why post this in the first place?

SINCE THERE IS NO EFFICIENT WAY TO GET THIS THREAD ERASED, LETS LET IT DIE A NATURAL DEATH.
I've spent years teaching in an inner-city school and have many stories, good and bad, about the use of the N word, but what would be the point of telling them here? Either I'd be "preaching to the choir" or my words would be falling on deaf ears.
The only positive thing I could see happening from all of this, is if someone would provide SjefSjef's street address to a group of black activists, so they could pay him a visit and "enlighten" him as to the error of his ways.

Phaedrus I can honestly understand your disgust at the original poster (as I am in a similar frame of mind) but to threaten violence you are making yourself no better than he is - two wrongs do certainly not ever make a right

Lauriesbts,
I meant that "tongue in cheek". I'm sorry if I gave anyone a wrong impression.
