Certain fires were used for purifications in the shamanistic tradition.or the smoke at least.
Nothing wrong with this.
And even fire and water are fine, if a pot is in between.it all depends.

Sorry,is there any difference between hell and fire?I think the two concepts are different. And also the fires of purification seem to have a different spiritual value from what we call the fires of "Hell".Purification is a means to come out from the wrong way,the fires of hell are for ever.Well,we had better define what "hell" is first. As a Christian I should have to believe in a perpetual damnation after death, but I personally find it difficult to believe in this.I prefer to believe in a hell that is around us and if you happen to come across it,you'll live the rest of your life in an invisible damnation.what's your opinion about? Are you all convinced that hell is INSIDE us?I want to know your opinon.

I would add that I'm not very comfortable with the idea that we have a hell inside.

Christians got really stuck with the hell-image, trapped themselves in a way, never go the full circle round, and all this just to plant fear into people to make them willing sheep.face it!
Other cultures see it as a state to overcome, bypass, like a feeling of having lost the (or a) center, but always with the ability to find it again, and loose it again, etc.
Up to everybody.
By the way, in buddhism you have several different hells, also cold hells thus ect.
