I would like to hear Gabriel cover something by Robert Pollard, Guided By Voices or Circus Devils. I mean talk about scratching someone's back- in a 1994 interview, Pollard said that Gabriel-era Genesis had a big influence on his music. As a result, legions of hardcore Guided By Voices fans started scooping up Genesis and Gabriel albums.

to be cheeky do something like home by the sea, it would be funny and yet so cool. thers a little bit of elbow nudging in that one. or something from the newer side of genesis like mama, domino, something funny and unexpected.

Here are my two suggestions:
Franco Battiato - "Clamori"

Fabrizio de Andre' - "Creuza de Ma"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoVxtw5V3GQ
Two fine pieces of music by my two all-time favourite Italian artists, which BTW have been clearly influenced by Our Man in some stages of their career - Fabrizio via former PFM member mauro Pagani, who co-wrote that song and reportedly had came to de Andre's studio carrying a copy of PG IV under his arm.
This one is even in (my native) Genoese language: I would be more than happy to provide a phonetic translation of the lyrics. :-]

Caste!!!
. . . De Andre' is fantastic,i love him, even if i do not understand Genovese-language,but he is a poet,"Crueza de Ma" is wonderful!
I read an interview to great Mauro Pagani,to the question: "What's your favourite artist of all time?"
He answered: "Peter Gabriel".
. . .Pagani is also artist who embraces many sounds of cultures from over the world. . .
p.s. SantaCaste. . .ha ha brilliant! :-]
