Ok so after listening to the wonderful "The Power of the Heart" instrumental it got me thinking. I remember reading somewhere on the forum that someone brought up the idea of an instrumental version of scratch my back and i think we should start a petetion for one. Not that i don't love Peter's voice (my joint favourite with a few other people)i just think that with the power of the heart instrumental it really adds something new to the whole feel of the song. and im not suggesting a whole full on cd release of smb instrumentals because to be honest i cant see that happening what so ever and i cant see it being warranted. maybe just release it as a download album? and who knows maybe even an instrumental version of new blood too when its finished?
anyway i would like an instrumental version of smb :-]
whos with me? :-] :-]

I agree. I thought a bonus CD of the orchestrations of SMB and New Blood would make a good bonus CD with the New Blood CD. Maybe even make available as a download.

From some of the clips from the 'New Blood' sessions, the arrangements of songs such as San Jacinto and Blood of Eden sound amazing in orcherstral form

I also gave a listen to the instrumental version of "Power of the Heart" recently - and it was really a pleasure, I enjoyed listening to it. Your brain starts to focus much more on the whole string arrangements and the music. I think the whole "Scratch My Back" could stand alone as an "instrumental"-album without Peter`s voice. It`s not topic to discuss Peter`s vocals on "SMB", because these are excellent.
Although a physical release of "Scratch My Back - the instrumental version" is unlikely, it is worth thinking about it. The argument is very simple: The arrangements are so well done, that they also could work as instrumental tracks, just like Peter`s re-arranged own classics for the "New Blood"-album.
here it is once again by the team 8thPlanet/Caste:

just RIGHT for this topic

Did Peter mention 3 or 4 months ago it will be available in a special form - maybe "SMB" special edition or sth. similar ?

I'd love instrumentals of PG's music. He and John Metcalfe have worked so hard to re-arrange the music, and the result is brilliant.
I love Peter Gabriel's voice, lyrics, AND songs (tunes?). Peeling back a layer or two would be a treat, methinks.
And keep in mind that he has written and produced MANY works that have no vocals, and they're universally brilliant.
My two cents. ^_^

it looks like there will be 2 editions of the "New Blood"-album:
1st the "atandard edition"
2nd a "special edition", double-CD with disc 2 featuring:
1. "Rhythm of the Heat" (instrumental)
2. "Downside Up" (Instrumental)
3. "San Jacinto" (instrumental)
4. "Intruder" (instrumental)
5. "Wallflower" (instrumental)
6. "In Your Eyes" (instrumental)
7. "Mercy Street" (instrumental)
8. "Red Rain" (instrumental)
9. "Darkness" (instrumental)
10."Don`t Give Up" (instrumental)
11."Digging in the Dirt" (instrumental)
and
12."Blood of Eden" (vocal plus orchestra I assume)

I loved it, that PG took again some SMB titles on the last South-America venue. I missed it already.
If there is a possibility , do more with New Blood, SMB instrumental, New or Other Songs. Whatever!
And then piano and the man,-- piano, the man and some New Blood for smaller venues like churchs and cosy open air; whatever...
