Hello Doc,i want to discuss two points of Jimborox that you define ". . . . very good".
1) Jimborox writes about voice of Peter Gabriel: "He does not have the voice to sing chamber music. Very few people do".
I want to know,please:
- What is "Chamber Music",definition and some brief history of its origin.
- Can he define S.M.B.,an album played with an Orchestra of 55 elements,"Chamber Music"?
Why and how?
What differents between Chamber Music and Classic Music?
- Chamber Music needs a conductor?
- Definition of "a singer of Chamber Music", what are characteristic of voice of this kind of singer?
- What are differences between voice of a singer of Chamber Music and voice of Peter Gabriel?
Can he shows us,please,a good example of a singer of Chamber Music?
Why Peter's voice is not able to sing with an Orchestra?
What is the real reason?
- Many times we have heard Peter Gabriel sings "Here comes the flood" voice with piano, can we define this kind of performance "Chamber Music"?
2) Jimborox writes that Peter: ". . . . to do that stupid song for Wall-E".
I want to know:
- Definition of "Stupid music" and "Intelligent music".
- A good example of Music of Peter Gabriel stupid and one intelligent.
- What are charateristics of "Down to Earth" song that we must understand that this song is "stupid".
- What are the criterion of valuation for a song of Peter Gabriel to be able to define it "stupid".
I wait for answers.
Please,real and informed answers,thank you.

All you need to know about Chamber Music is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamber_music
Of course, PG doesn't have the voice to sing chamber music, it is not sung. . .

Do you have heard "Lieder" (piano and voice), Shubert and Schumann?
hope it works.

i have directv and they have a guitar sessions show where pete came on and sang a couple tunes and sat down for an interview which was real good. he did one of my favorites " here comes the flood" and "father/son" which is a special song for me as my father passed away almost 3 years ago and its still a painful song to hear.it was just him and piano.that would have been a great album. pat dinunzio, the singer for the smithereens did an album of standards with just piano and voice and it was great. i think pete should have done something like that and i think that would have gotten what he wanted.stop dwelling on chamber music because it was an expression. he does not have the voice to carry that off. THAT DOES NOT MEAN HE SUCKS! a power hitter may not be able to hit left handed but that does not mean he can't hit if he is an all star right handed hitter.

I agree w/ Jimbo. This is my first post also; however, I've been a PG fan for quite some time (most of my teenage and adult life).
I still and always will love many of PG's albums/art. However, "Scratch My Back" doesn't make me wanna scratch anything in return. Not only is every song lifeless; but, each song also follows a boring pattern of Orchestral boom followed by blah. The PG I loved and appreciated was flavorful and sometimes edgy. What I agree with about what Jimborox said is that, in my opinion, PG is trying to cater to a different group of fans maybe.or.maybe it is "the end".
I look forward to the next album; but, am severely disappointed in buying this one. I threw the CD in the trash after my first listen. I RARELY do that.
Thanks to PG though and I still support future endeavors. I'm just not into this release.

First off Welcome to the moon Rick.
To each their own, you are allowed your opinion just like everyone else.
Sorry you threw the CD away, you might have liked it if you could have listened to it more than once.
Local libraries sometimes have CD's available to check out, you could have donated the CD.
Oh well que sera sera.

I agree with progresive Jen.instead of throwing the cd to the trash, you could hace given ot to someone.
Recently i listened to 2 albums from another artist that i didn't like, what i did is to leave those 2 cd's in the street over a chair. in less than 5 minutes they dissapeared. beacuase someone caught them.
i respect your opinion RIck about SMB, but i disagree. I think SMB could be hard to listenfor the first time, in my case it was. Know i think it was the right move for Peter. I'm so happy he made it and gaive us the opportunity to hear him live with the orchestra.
Some music journalist say in Spain about PG: " a cd of covers is the typical cd that makes a group when they have no new ideas. In PG case is not ike that, he takes risks doing the covers his way, he goes beyond again".
Rick welcome to the full moon club

I totally agree with this music journalist. Peter is still innovating with SMB. Pure magic to listen to SMB in concert, to feel so much emotions.

" Rick6823: PG is trying to cater to a different group of fans maybe.or.maybe it is "the end"."
. . .Peter does not have to satisfy nobody, because HE IS Artist, and he follows his own path, and because he has a very long Big career.
No need to satisfy anyone.
. . .on the opposite: we would have a man (NOT an Artist) that makes album every year, and with songs for charts like "oohhh! Pleeese, don't leave me,i need youuuu,i love youuuu, sha la la la ,i love youuuuu, sha la la la!"
