I love the music of Scratch My Back and Peter's voice is amazing, as always. I can't help but notice though, that Peter hasn't come out with any new music of his own, and I wonder what is in his heart to do with his time in order to feel the new river that always comes from within. Yes, he spends enormous amounts of time working hard and giving to other artists, but what does he need to feel his own river of new music? I'm sure he knows. The question is, can he have time for himself and his own creativity if he so chose? Would others around him allow him that time or would they continue to insist that he "work hard" on what they thought he should do. Sometimes the best inspiration is a little "R and R".
Peter, what do you need? Do you have new grooves of your own? We love you Peter. Immensely. You and your whole family.

Come ride a river with me
Like birds in flight we'll be
Bad Kitty Kat has gone her way
She's no longer so hungry
We'll play without delay
Having fun today
Seeing what can be
Knowing we are free
In colour, light and sound
With friends and loved ones
Near to us all around
Good times with wine and cheese
And children who know how to say please
Daddy, oh Daddy oh
We know you love us so
Will you let the new music flow?

Gentle breeze blowing in the night
Dark clouds obsure the moon from our sight
Memories of a scary story
Make the beating heart feel sad
Did the meowing cat know of the bad
Things to come undone under the sun?
(I think not)
Tears have fallen from soft cheeks world-wide
Knowing pain and destruction of the swollen tide
Where is the hope?
The music of life
In the absence of fear
Letting go of our strife

PG is very busy (4 kids and 2 charities) and has lots of unfinished tunes in his archives. He just does not like releasing them to the general public until the songs feel "right" to him.
I'm not affiliated with Real World or PG. I'm just another fan.
Hope this helps.

Maybe Peter's just on the river bank at the moment? :-]

Rockin Rose - your messages are beautiful, and show a great love for PG as an artist. I hear where you're coming from. But I would suggest another way of looking at PG's recent immersion in covers.
Here's my take on this. Forgive me if I've misread the gist of your posts.
For me, Scratch My Back is not a lesser event simply because he did not write the songs. It's no less a part of his creative river than any of his recordings of original songs. Why?
First, because his take on these songs is so personal, and so idiosyncratic, that the concept of authorship almost seems irrelevant. Second, and more important, rivers need sources. PG's individual artistic river is fed by a much larger one. As a PG fan, I find it very inspiring and comforting to know that he has the humility and good sense to jump into it.
Hey Duddy, thanks for the Horst Wackerbarth link. I was totally ignorant of this guy until now. I wonder if that couch floats?

You're very welcome Morongo - I love the idea of the project, I can see why PG got involved. Something very Ovo-ish about it.
Thanks for your words, Peter has always acknowledged his debt to other artists. I must admit I see SMB as a kind of flowering of new ideas, a prelude if you like, as well as a wonderful interpretation in its own right. Great to share in your admiration Rockin Rose and Morongo both! :-]

Morongo. I agree with you that Scratch My Back is not a lesser event. I love the work thoroughly and immensely. The music has moved me deeply. I was merely expressing a desire to hear his own new river of music. It is something I have longed for for quite some time. Why is this so important to me? It just is. Also, I was also responding to another post that expressed that Peter seemed tired, and I know as an artist myself that sometimes some creative time in your own new river can bring refreshment and renewed vitality.
