right, i am in love with this record.
but i'm surprised it hasn't met with universal acclaim.
i've seen some really anti-peter comments, that he's past it etc.
i just dont get it

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM AT THE 02 IN MARCH!
it will be the greatest moment of my life.

Ignore the ignoramuses - especially the ones who say "well I used to like PG and now this crap".
The following comment sums up far better than I ever could how I feel about this brave, intelligent, lovely record:
Do I have this right? Half of Bros is being hailed as the new Sinatra and we're dissing Peter Gabriel.? (Dr Evil voice) Roiggght.

Hey peeps! It's February! Grey skies are the new sunshine! We can do gloom and embrace melancholy! Seriously though, if you don't get Vaughan Williams or Joni's Travellogue (which I just needed to listen to after this) then don't bother with this. It'll depress the Bejesus out of you. But for those of you who can embrace the February mood complete with howling winds and hot chocolate by the fireside, this is just glorious. Beautiful, billowing orchestration around that voice. The string arrangement on Heroes is positively exultant. And much as I love the originals, I found myself listening, REALLY listening to some of the lyrics for the first time. The accompaniments have been kept back just enough for us to savour what he's singing. Mirrorball is wonderful (but then the original is magnificent) and The Book of Love is glorious too.

Donds for Elbow doing In Your Eyes. Please guys - stick your flag in that one pronto. We want to hear it.

Schoonslargebeard owes me a keyboard.

I'll buy this when it comes out.
Just gorgeous.
Well done Mr Gabriel - splendid.

For me, this album has got no weak songs. Every single sound is brilliant.
His voice may have lost some high notes, but in my opinion he has never sounded better.

When Us came out, it was mostly skewered by the critics. One even had a headline "Say It Ain't So." But now Us is considered one of his most brilliant albums.
Go figure.
Anyway, I kinda like when some people diss PG. Perhaps I'm the jealous type, but sometimes I have a hard time sharing PG with all these teeny-boppers half my age (or less.)

I was wondering if I'd like this 'album of covers' well anyone can say that's all it is until they have listened to it, as I am doing now.
In my opinion on first hearing its utterly brilliant, there is not a bad track and the treatment of well known tracks such as Heroes is beauty beyond belief.

This is not one to be stuck on in the car and blandly heard in the background; more likely I will compliment it with a fine bottle of fine red wine tonight and listen to it as one would with a fine classic masterpiece by a great composer. If you like melodic powerful music you'll be in heaven.

I don't know why it posted the above with squares and a's with accents added- please ignore them.
