Peter Gabriel and Lou Reed are long-time friends - Peter introduced Lou to a few acts of the Realworld-label like for example Joseph Arthur. Lou was also there to interview PG, when the 10 years of Realworld Records were celebrated some 10 years ago, they spoke about artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and others, so we can say Lou always had an insight of what`s going on in PG`s cosmos.
Lou married Laurie Anderson a while back - "The Power of Your Heart" was obviously written by Lou for Laurie ("SmB"-podcast 2).
Peter appeared as a guest musician on Laurie`s album from 1984 on 2 tracks - "Gravity`s Angel" and "Excellent Birds" which became "This is the Picture" on "So" later on. There were also guest appearances by Laurie on Peter`s "So"-tour in 1986. Peter, Laurie and Brian Eno were discussing ideas for a Realworld Expirience Park - an idea that never got realized.
I think it`s a nice present and gesture of Peter to sing this special track that somehow connects Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson.

PG's version is really heartbreaking. Lou's voice can override his lyrics at times. Glad to see Lou & Laurie finally tied the knot (OK - I found the news a wee bit late). I wonder what PG song Lou will cover in return. "Humdrum" may work well with Lou's voice.

A 'loose' version of Solsbury Hill with fuzz guitars all over it - according to PG on the One Show last night. Oh and Regina Spector has yet to choose.

No Rraven, PG didn't mention Talking Heads.
What about David Byrne doing 'I Don't Remember' or 'I have the touch'. I think there's quite a few he could do - if it is him.

That's another good one Rraven, or No Self Control? Something to do with tension would suit his style -possibly?

I also first thought about "Humdrum" for Lou Reed.
Lou Reed seems to get used to the fact, that his songs get discovered AND covered by other artists. Duran Duran already covered 2 Lou Reed-tracks : "Femme Fatale" and "Perfect World" - some may call it "simple pop", but I like both versions of Duran Duran.
Peter Gabriel chose out the RIGHT Lou Reed-song to cover, as his voice fits perfectly to the song.
Beside "Book of Love" - the "Power of the Heart" is Peter`s 2nd "L

VE-B

MB" on the "Scratch My Back"-album.

Cimber, I believe you mean "Perfect Day" not Perfect World, right?
Anyways, I thought of "Excuse me" for Lou Reed. Because he once did a song that was kinda barbershop-style too. It's "Goodnight Ladies", which is on the album Transformer. So I thought it would be fun to hear him sing Excuse me. But I'm definately looking forward to seeing what he'll do.

I love this song too and can't stop listening to it.
I looked for lyrics, but couldn't find them, so I wrote them out:
The Power of the Heart
You and me we always sweat and strain
You look for sun, I look for rain
We're different people, we're not the same
The power of the sun
I look at tree tops, you look for caps
Above the water where the waves snap back
I flew around the world to bring you back
It was the power of your heart
The power of your heart,
Oh, the power of your heart,
All around the world to bring you back
It was the power of your heart
Of your heart
You looked at me, I looked at you
Your sleepy heart was shining through
Wispy cobwebs that were breathing through
The power of the heart
I looked at you, you looked at me
I thought of the past, you thought of what could be
I asked you once again to marry me
The power of the heart
The power of the heart,
The power of the heart,
All around the world to bring you home
That's the power of your heart
Of your heart
Everybody says love makes the world go round
I hear a bubble, I hear a sound
My heart beating and I turn around
I find you standing at the door
You know me; I like to dream a lot
Of this and that and what is not
Finally I figured out what was what
It was the power of your heart.
The power of your heart,
The power of your heart,
All around the world just to bring you back
It was the power of your heart
Of your heart
You and me, we sweat and strain
But the result, it's always the same
I think somehow we're in again
The power of the heart
I think I'm dumb and I know you're smart
The beating of a pure-bread heart
I say this to you, and it's no lark
Marry me today.
You know me, I like to dream a lot
Of what there is, and what there's not
But mainly, I dream of you a lot
The power of your heart
The power of your heart,
The power of your heart,
All around the world just to bring you back
It's the power of your heart
The power of your heart,
The power of your heart,
Finally I figured out what was what
It was the power of your heart
Of your heart
