I was just wondering if anyone had any idea if The Book Of Love is going to be a new recording of the song for Scratch My Back or if PG is using the recording from the soundtrack of Shall We Dance? Also i love the podcast with the excerts on. Really cannot wait for this new album. Plus its going to be released on the 15th of Feb which happens to be my birthday so it will be a good birthday :-] Plus ive also got tickets to see him live and as im only 15 and never before seen him live im hoping its going to be fantastic Im also really excited about the follow up album "I'll Scratch Yours" especially because if all the artists on PG's new album are going to be recording a song i cannot wait to hear a new song from Bowie because he has been relitivley quiet since 2003 Would love to hear anyones ideas on The Book Of Love question i asked and any other things to do with Scratch My Back and the proposed follow up album. maybe also some ideas on what PG songs could be covered by the people who's songs are being covered on PG's new album would be great to hear

Hello Gavinoski and welcome to the Moon! Lucky you having tickets!! I think the Book of Love must be a new recording, because all the tracks will be individually arranged and Peter will be singing with those new arrangements. Don't want to put a damper on the Bowie thing but I do recall reading somewhere on this site that Brian Eno was going to do that. I think he and D Bowie co-wrote Heroes and Bowie is unable (or has declined) to do one of Peter's songs. Also PG has said that the other artists will do the covers in many different ways such as live performances or as part of one of their own albums etc. But I am sure as with most PG plans - expect the unexpected! Peter has given some hints as to which tracks other artists might do, eg Paul Simon possibly Biko. I think the first podcast here and also on the last Full Moon Club video update will give clues I think. There are various rumours discussed - look around the 'General' thread. Chip in here Lunatics, I may have forgotten something.

Gavin, there won`t be a Gabriel-song covered by David Bowie - instead of this Brian Eno, who co-wrote "Heroes" will do a cover. About "Book of Love": the version on the "Shall We Dance"-soundtrack sounds just fine - we will see, if a new version appears on "Scratch my Back". Paul Simon will do "Biko". Elbow will do "Red Rain" (still a rumour).

Duddy, I haven`t seen your post - double message, almost same info. . . With "Book of Love" I think it will be similar like "I Grieve": there was already a version from 1998 from the "City of Angels", then Peter also did a new recording for "Up" in 2002.

PG can be such a cheap trickster, one example where I'd prefer no recycling. A whole album of new stuff, no faffing around.

Bah Humbug Mr Scrooge/beef.

Yeah, I know PJ - I'm a miserable devil, but I hope in a positive way, if that isn't a complete contradiction? Scrooge is an essential character in our collective psyche, I think.

I don't see PG as a "cheap trickster" If he were we'd probably get a new album every year. I understand your yearning for new material, I share it but from all accounts this is not your "typical" covers album. Look at Phil Collins he's going to put out a covers album of Mowtown hits that will sound just like the originals -where's the fun in that???? Don't forget Scrooge saw the "errors of his ways". Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays

. . . so many errors & so many ways - it's a lifetime's work. But I hope I'm getting there. . . No, the last thing I'd want is for any of my favourite artists to start churning stuff out. . . so PG certainly doesn't disappoint in that respect. . . but there probably is an optimal point somewhere between that and grinding to a complete halt. I guess that Scratch my Back must be something of a speed record for PG? I forget exactly when the project started, but it can't be much more than a year or so. . . and I'm sure there will be plenty of cheers when it crosses the finishing line and lands in the shops. Oh yes, I nearly forgot - Merry Chris. . . Bah . . .Hum. . . tmas. . . Bug!

Hi There! Well, this thread is about half a year old (BTW: hope you all had a nice Christmas), but it fits my question, so I'll pick it up. According to the sound snippet on allmusic.com, the versions of "The Book of Love" on "Shall We Dance?" and SMB in fact _are_ the same. Or did the folks at allmusic mix up their sample files? My question now is: Are there other songs on SMB that have been previously released in the Peter version?
Mr Beef 31 May 2010 at 2:34pm Posts: 761 (0 today) Status: offline
. . . Hi Eri523 - no, it's only Book of Love that is a duplicate. It is very similar to the Shall We Dance version, but the vocals have been re-recorded and are a lot more up in the mix and with less delay in the chorus. . .

Hi Mr Beef, thanks for your quick answer. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I didn't notice these subtle differences in the short sound snippet that - I think - has been squeezed to relatively low quality for the sake of storage space on their server.
