I wasn't at this show tonight... but there are a ton of posts about it on Twitter. Apparently at the beginning of "In Your Eyes" John Cusack walked on stage with a boombox and presented it to PG. That's pretty funny. Yet to find many good pictures or videos of it yet though, so if you find them post them. Cusack himself posted several pics of the show on his Twitter account.

I can confirm this happened -- John was wearing a hat and snuck on the stage hunched over with the boom box. Peter took it and held it over his head. When he acknowledged it was John Cusack (from the back-ish of the Bowl, we couldn't tell), Cusack waved his hat and moved quickly off-stage. Peter put the boom box down next to his keyboard and started singing. The cameras later found Cusack leaning against the wall to the side of the stage and taking in the song. And the boom box got a spotlight on it during the extended outro of the song. Peter also introduced Cusack after the song ended, which led to the latter sticking his head onto the stage and another wave of his hat. Apparently Cameron Crowe was also there, according to Peter. A fun addition to an amazing show.

That John Cusack bit was the best gag ever! The only problem was that the video screens weren't on, so only those of us lucky enough to be fairly close to the stage figured out what was going on. As for the rest of the show, it was phenomenal. I only have 3 criticisms, and for those who know me, this is a miracle unto itself: 1. That Voice Again is still not working live. I don't know what it is, but even the combined efforts of PG and Messrs. Sanctious, Levin, Rhodes and Katche couldn't get it off the ground. It just never really went anywhere. I think it was missing some of those menacing overtones that the album version has. 2. Big Time has always made me go, "meh," so I wasn't impressed with it live, either. 3. The outro to Don't Give Up took awhile to catch on because PG and Jennie sat back and just held their microphones out to the audience, most of whom didn't seem to know what was expected. Once they started doing it as a more "call and response" thing, it was fine. Other than that, the show was amazing and the people around us were fairly civilized. There was one woman a short distance from us who yelled "Supper's Ready" a few times (unclear on the concept of the gig, apparently), and a guy behind us who tried to tell us when we could stand up and sit down, but we ignored him. The visual effects were powerful but not overwhelming. PG's voice was divine, as always. The dance moves were adorable. I'm really looking forward to getting the bootleg. Cheers to all, and to anyone going to the San Diego show tonight, I hope you have as much fun as we had last night! kat

http://youtu.be/bjITrTdnDlE i posted the in your eyes video I have of this song and the cusack gig at utube link above; although a poor video, you get the sense of it. It will probably be on teh encore series. I was missing Paula Cole during all the duets, She was remarkable, 25 years ago.

Here's the video I shot of "In Your Eyes" with the John Cusack cameo. I was blown away when I found out a couple days later that PG linked to it on his FB page and Twitter, and it took off from there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEIty14mI_I&feature=plcp
