That John Cusack bit was the best gag ever! The only problem was that the video screens weren't on, so only those of us lucky enough to be fairly close to the stage figured out what was going on.
As for the rest of the show, it was phenomenal. I only have 3 criticisms, and for those who know me, this is a miracle unto itself:
1. That Voice Again is still not working live. I don't know what it is, but even the combined efforts of PG and Messrs. Sanctious, Levin, Rhodes and Katche couldn't get it off the ground. It just never really went anywhere. I think it was missing some of those menacing overtones that the album version has.
2. Big Time has always made me go, "meh," so I wasn't impressed with it live, either.
3. The outro to Don't Give Up took awhile to catch on because PG and Jennie sat back and just held their microphones out to the audience, most of whom didn't seem to know what was expected. Once they started doing it as a more "call and response" thing, it was fine.
Other than that, the show was amazing and the people around us were fairly civilized. There was one woman a short distance from us who yelled "Supper's Ready" a few times (unclear on the concept of the gig, apparently), and a guy behind us who tried to tell us when we could stand up and sit down, but we ignored him. The visual effects were powerful but not overwhelming. PG's voice was divine, as always. The dance moves were adorable. I'm really looking forward to getting the bootleg.
Cheers to all, and to anyone going to the San Diego show tonight, I hope you have as much fun as we had last night!
