I'm going to the Montréal show on the 28th and I heard conflicting statements regarding photography during the show. I know that this site encourages us to take and upload photos of the show and that the Montréal shows are listed in the photo 'upload' form. I own several digital cameras but I would like to take my best stuff (Nikon D700 and 70-200 f2. to the show to make the best photos possible. While I haven't seen any guidelines regarding equipment on PG's site, the Bell Center people tell me that I can only bring a non-professional camera with non-interchangeable lenses. This leaves only the crappy P&S cams and I'm really disappointed to hear that. I went a little deeper and I was told that the production company has these details in PG's contract for the Montréal show and that he himself requested that no 'professional' cameras should be allowed in Montréal which seems to contradict the request to upload good photos. Some of the photos that I've seen were take with a much better camera than a point and shoot. Does anybody have any infos regarding that? Thanks in advance.

If that's what PG requested and wants, honor it as I'm sure he has his reasons. At least we get to take a camera, some concerts will not allow even that. I'm just happy I will be able to snap some amature pictures now and then.

No professional cameras with detatchable lenses. Period. Although tales abound of people sucessfully smuggling one in, if security sees you, you are kicked out immediately. That rule was in place in Belin, will be in place in NYC and was strictly enforced in London so that even cell phone movie use was banned. That seems to be an international rule. It's not worth the risk.

I have absolutely no intention to smuggling anything in. I just find it odd that PG encourages us to upload pictures of his show and on the other side limits the quality of those pics by preventing the use of acceptable cameras. I've been to plenty of shows where I can legally bring in my pro cams and lenses without any problem. I've been a PG fan for 30 years and I like to bring home nice 'souvenirs' of the shows I go see. I'm going to bring the best non pro camera with fixed lens that I can find and that's it. I guess I'm just a little sad that an innovative artist like PG is still enforcing a decades old rule that doesn't have any relevance anymore in our digital age. It's like cellphone use in hospital; it's still there but has no practical meaning. I've been a photographer for 25 years now and I like fixed pictures. But I'm curious. Raven talked about cellphone filming. Given that almost every cell phone and point & shoot camera can film (some in full HD); how are the security people able to ban that activity? I really appreciate the answers and the time you took to write them. Thanks JF.

JF, I look forward to seeing your pictures of the concert if you would not mind posting them for us when you have time. Enjoy the show!
