I just put on "Up" for the first time in ages today.
Got the last track "Drop" and I was wondering what people thought of this lovely track being adapted to Orchestra?
I'd welcome it

Andy,
when Peter spoke some introducing words for the next song, he said sth. like: "we play this next song for the FIRST time" (Berlin concert March the 25th) - his last words were. . ."THE DROP".
I began to listen and. . .
. . .the LIVE-version of "The Drop" was:
CUTE
SWEET
AMAZING
BEAUTIFUL
The song always remained almost unnoticed on the album "UP" as the last track and with its simple and spare arrangement, as "UP" includes MONUMENTAL tracks like "Sky Blue", "I Grieve" and "Signal To Noise".
I can still hear Peter singing the song LIVE in my ears.

I think it's wonderful on 'Up', like a meditation which it is of course. PG has said the vocal take was very rough and quick,. Becasue of that I think you can hear all the character of his voice and it's such a tender, wondering song.
It suits the orchestral arrangement very well. Lucky you Cimber - would love to hear it live.

He never played live before because he said he "forgot the chords" (!!!).
I'm glad that he chose to play it live now, with the orchestra doing the "dirty work" :-] - I would also have liked to hear Wallflower BTW (and I have "voted" for it at the soundcheck) since I never listened to it live, but listening to the Paris concert it seems that sadly it was a not so great version.
Mercy Street was way better and I thank him for that mesmerizing rendition.

Peter did 'The Drop' at the first London show-commenting that they had not screwed it up in Berlin so they would do it again. Lovely arrangement!

You're right Duddy. I remember a video on Real World just before "UP" was released in 2002 where PG said that they made different vocal takes of "The Drop" and they decided to keep the rough one. It seems to me that PG wanted to keep it was it was.
