Millennium from "Flowers for Hitler" by Leonard Cohen This could be my little book about love if I wrote it-- but my good demon said: 'Lay off documents!' Everybody was watching me burn my books-- I swung my liberty torch happy as a gestapo brute; the only thing I wanted to save was a scar a burn or two-- but my good demon said: 'Lay off documents! The fire's not important!' The pile was safely blazing. I went home to take a bath. I phoned my grandmother. She is suffering from arthritis. 'Keep well,' I said, 'don't mind the pain.' 'You neither,' she said. Hours later I wondered did she mean don't mind my pain or don't mind her pain? Whereupon my good demon said: 'Is that all you can do?' Well was it? Was it all I could do? There was the old lady eating alone, thinking about Prince Albert, Flanders Field, Kishenev, her fingers too sore for TV knobs; but how could I get there ? The books were gone my address lists-- My good demon said again: 'Lay off documents! You know how to get there!' And suddenly I did! I remembered it from memory! I found her pouring over the royal family tree, 'Grandma,' I almost said, 'you've got it upside down--' 'Take a look,' she said, 'it only goes to George V.' 'That's far enough you sweet old blood!' 'You're right!' she sang and burned the London Illustrated Souvenir I did not understand the day it was till I looked outside and saw a fire in every window on the street and crowds of humans crazy to talk and cats and dogs and birds smiling at each other!

welcome to some poems of Leonard Cohen When this American woman from "Let Us Compare Mythologies" When this American woman, whose thighs are bound in casual red cloth, comes thundering past my sitting place like a forest-burning Mongol tribe, the city is ravished and brittle buildings of a hundred years splash into the street; and my eyes are burnt for the embroidered Chinese girls, already old, and so small between the thin pines on these enormous landscapes, that if you turn your head they are lost for hours.

I Have Not Lingered In European Monosteries from "The Spice-Box of Earth" I Have Not Lingered In European Monosteries and discovered among the tall grasses tombs of knights who fell as beautifully as their ballads tell; I have not parted the grasses or purposefully left them thatched. I have not held my breath so that I might hear the breathing of God or tamed my heartbeat with an exercise, or starved for visions. Although I have watched him often I have not become the heron, leaving my body on the shore, and I have not become the luminous trout, leaving my body in the air. I have not worshipped wounds and relics, or combs of iron, or bodies wrapped and burnt in scrolls. I have not been unhappy for ten thousands years. During the day I laugh and during the night I sleep. My favourite cooks prepare my meals, my body cleans and repairs itself, and all my work goes well.

Think Pink: Stand Up For Anti-Bullying on Pink Shirt Day Bullying is a problem in schools all over North America, and on Wednesday, February 29th Canada celebrates Anti-Bullying with Pink Shirt Day. Celebrated on the last Wednesday of February every year, Pink Shirt Day was started by two high school students who thought it was time to make a statement against their school bullies. Why does America lead the world in school shootings? Editor's Note: Dr. Frank Ochberg is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Michigan State University and former Associate Director of the National Institute of Mental Health. February 28th, 2012 07:00 AM ET By Frank Ochberg - Special to CNN School shootings are far more frequent in America than in other countries, although terrible massacres have occurred in Russia, Israel, and several European nations. In the high-crime neighborhoods of inner cities, school turf is relatively safe. We have learned to harden the target and patrol with vigilance. And even in those suburbs and small towns where spree killings have occurred, the rates, per capita, are lower now than in previous decades. School is a safe place - until, as in Chardon, Ohio, the unspeakable happens. Then, even though the risks are low, it is fair to ask, why does this still happen? Why here, in America? Let's be clear. There is no single, certain answer to these questions. The possible factors include failure by classmates, parents and school officials to see the warning signs; bullying and revenge; serious mental illness; violent role models; drugs; access to guns, and a culture that condones extremism. America has its share of these factors, but which are significant and which are more prevalent here than across the Atlantic? Warning signs Students do not become mass killers overnight. They nurse their fantasies and they leak evidence. Insults, threats and plans are posted on websites. Classmates often know when a student is ready to strike back. Parents hear rumblings and have accurate gut sensations. Within our country there are communities and neighborhoods and school districts that are relatively cohesive, vigilant and able to discuss warning signs of danger. There are some communities that are not as well integrated. They must be coached and helped. After Columbine and Virginia Tech and other notorious school shootings, new programs to share information were developed and several plots were nipped in the bud. This evolution of information sharing occurs in other countries, but it is difficult to measure, nation to nation, who is ahead and who is behind. I see no proof that America is losing this race to improve detection of warning signs. Bullying and revenge We have too many bullies and too many youngsters at the mercy of bullies. But we also have a growing system of anti-bullying school programs. Despite rumors to the contrary, the Columbine killers were not bullied. There is no evidence that America, compared to other nations, has more bullies, more bullying, more victimization, and more victims who are ticking time bombs, hatching plots of lethal vengeance. However, we certainly can and should promote school programs that protect all children from stalking, hazing, and the new, evolving forms of abuse: Ostracism and humiliation through electronic social networks. When boys are bullied they may fantasize about revenge. To dream of turning the tables on a bully is common to all eras, most cultures, and the source of drama, film and literature from the Elizabethan stage to the spaghetti Western. But whether a slowly evolving fantasy of mass murder is a product of mental illness, of bullying or of other sources, there are usually signs along the way. Major mental illness We do not have more major mental illness than most other countries. But we may be less caring of our mentally ill. Back in the Kennedy era, we launched community mental health programs to care for people with schizophrenia and similarly severe disorders, including depression. We wanted treatment available close to home, with compassionate supervision and with proper medication. We tried to stop the revolving door to the asylum, and, in fact, we tore down the large state hospitals. Our best intentions failed. The program was never fully funded and our American system of care leaves much to be desired. The most serious mental illnesses, schizophrenia and depression, often become overt in adolescence. A boy who is smart enough to get into a good college becomes deluded, obsessed, strange, scary - and he gets rejected, isolated and stuck in a fantasy world. Those fantasies can become lethal. These forms of mental illness are seldom the source of homicide (far more often they torment and demoralize the disturbed individual). But when they are dangerous to others, we need good answers. We do not have a sophisticated system of care and protection. If we did, Mr. Cho would not have killed 37 students at Virginia Tech. But America is really no worse than other nations when it comes to the numbers of seriously mentally ill, of violently mentally ill, of insufficiently treated violent mentally ill school-age boys. (Yes, we are talking about boys and young men; by far, they are the school shooters). Violent role models Violent role models, on the street, in the cinema, in the news, have been with us for as long as I recall, and are not limited to America. Back in the '60s, an American counter culture leader said, "Violence is as American as cherry pie." But other parts of the world, such as Northern Ireland, the Balkans, the children's armies of Africa, the terrorist camps of the Middle East, have their violent role models. Machismo is not an American word, nor is Hooligan. Drugs We do have drugs and a drug culture and aspects of this problem are more severe here than in many other parts of the world. Crime is connected to the drug trade and this crime can spill into the school. But the type of school shooting that occurs in the suburb is seldom connected to this urban issue. There may be an indirect connection, since drug wars arm young soldiers of drug wars, and arms are a large issue in America. Access to guns Access to guns is a significant factor in American school shootings. If kids could not and did not bring guns to school, we wouldn't have Columbine, Virginia Tech or Chardon, Ohio. There have been crimes with knives and bats and fists. But school shootings are gun crimes. Kids with guns kill kids at school. I do not think America is an extremist nation, compared to other nations with bloody histories and despotic leaders. True, we have polarized political speech, and some of that speech is about access to guns. But the reason we have an American school shooting problem that exceeds other nations has to do with access to loaded weapons by kids who should not have that access. I'm not offering a gun control solution. But any serious attempt to prevent school shooting will have to attack the problem by determining who should not be armed, and preventing dangerous boys from bringing guns to school. The views expressed in this article are solely those of Frank Ochberg. For more on the subject of school shootings, Dr. Ochberg recommends reading reports by the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI.

John Pavelich Well, there was an Easter weekend in 1972, I think, where Doug and I flew with 15 Fd Arty and spent the weekend supporting their live shoot in Shiloh with commas using the old C42 sets. I seem to recall something about an errant Zamboni that was under the influence of Doug )) Ahhh...and I'm still in the Army after all those years.

Mountain: Spencer aka Spence on the same lunch break - I remember he told us he was half Japanese and we didn't believe him - till we have the open house and met his mum, I think his other half was Welsh - good combo Terry - I remember the ball caps now with the Signals crest and the arm bands. Our uniform was a combination of the new work dress pants and the old Khaki shirts. The new dress greens uniform and combats were issued after the summer if we elected to stay in the unit. Mountain: Do you remember the black overalls? We didn't have combats and had to buy those at 3 Vets - I remember the hike up a hill somewhere wearing those black overalls - some of the guys said that people thought they worked at a gas station. lol ... We did that hike straight up the side of a mountain, or so it seemed to me - I drank all my water, then finished off one of the guys orange juice - at one point I fell down near the officer, he said he'd like to help me up, but couldn't cause he was an officer (but not a gentleman) Finally he radio'd for help, this is what he said, "We have either mislaid our position or mislaid ourselves" n other words we were lost - we found our people and there was cold beer, boy was that good. I was scratched, dirty, tired and sick and I complained to Adams that I was the weakest one of the unit - he said, "Miller you finished with the rest of us, that's what counts" That made me feel a little better - I liked the combats I got, but I never took the guy name label off, and that became my nickname, Beilman

RIP friend Sad day for losing people - Davy Jones, and a much loved poster at my other board, known as 8bestfriends, here's the message from her son: Hi everyone. I am 8bestfriends son, Andy, and I wanted to let you know that my mother passed away on Friday and the services are tomorrow (Wednesday). I know she was fond of her internet friends from her chat rooms - this one, Jet Li and Russell Crowe. She made many friends, many who she'd talk to on the phone, mail cards, etc. She started off about 10 years ago with Web TV (provided my my younger brother and his wife), which was a basic tool so she could get email and the internet on her TV. That didn't last too long before she wanted a real computer and she was a quick study, especially with the assistance of her online communities. I had to search her computer to find the forum boards so I could let posters know. She had battled health issues for a while. I know she'd have a hospital stint and went to a place for rehab so she couldn't post for several weeks but she was always happy to return home and resume her online socialization. She has dealt with pain for quite a while and did not complain much. It got worse the last month or two, so be relieved she is now pain free. She had the best memory and a quit wit - her mind was sharp as a tack but her body didn't hold up. I want to thank everyone for their friendship with her over the years - trust me when I say it meant a lot to her...more than you probably know. Sincerely, Andy

"A person can apologize and we can forgive them, but sometimes we just can't forget the pain that they gave."

Several years ago, after the Amish school children's murders here in Lancaster, PA, most of the world sat back and watched, amazed that the families of the victims could actually visit and meet with the family of the man who had killed their children and himself. There have been some really great books about this tragedy and one that I read was very interesting to me. The author did not so much speak of "forgive and forget" because obviously it's very difficult to forget -- especially something so horrific as murder. The author made me stop to think about it -- true forgiveness is getting past the hurt (which will always be there) and living with it and being able to carry on despite the pain a person might feel. Only through that process can a person even begin to forget and be able to live on. (This is my understanding of his words, not a direct quote, but I think anyone would get the idea).

I'm not a big enough person to forgive and forget - I am very sensitive to negative vibes and the last few weeks have been hell for me - and these people took such joy in inflicting pain - no forgiveness, that's just not in me right now. I guess I'm human, I want it behind us and carry on with the fun of posting at this Peter Gabriel forum - the death of a friend at the Wolf's Den makes it all seem so trite and stupid - there are more important things in this world Real people with real pain and real death in this real world

RABBITS!!! This is a Welsh custom, my grandmother was a Morgan, and this has been in our family since I can remember - Alysia does it now, but she's asleep, so she can still get me. Rabbit rabbit Being the first to say "rabbit rabbit" to a person on the first of the month will bring good luck. "Rabbit rabbit" is a common British superstition. The most common modern version states that a person should say "rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit", "rabbit, rabbit, rabbit", "rabbits, rabbits, rabbits",[1] "rabbit, rabbit" or simply "white rabbits" upon waking on the first day of each new month, and on doing so will receive good luck for the duration of that month. In the United States, the tradition is especially common in Nantucket, Cape Cod, other towns within Massachusetts, and throughout Vermont, notably in Middlebury and Chester. Origins and history The exact origin of the superstition is unknown, though it has appeared in print at least as early as 1922: “Why,” the man in the brown hat laughed at him, “I thought everybody knew ’Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit.’ If you say ‘Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit’—three times, just like that—first thing in the morning on the first of the month, even before you say your prayers, you’ll get a present before the end of the month.”[2] However, some reports place its origins even earlier, into the 1800s. Today it has spread to most of the English-speaking countries of the world, although, like all folklore, determining its exact area of distribution is difficult. This superstition is related to the broader belief in the rabbit or hare being a "lucky" animal, as exhibited in the practice of carrying a rabbit's foot for luck. Some have also believed it represents jumping into the future and moving ahead with life and happiness.

Cyn, I hear ya loud and clear and absolutely understand what it is you're saying. My comments regarding the Amish children's murders was in response to your "qoute" listed above -- it was in "quotation" marks so I thought it was a direct "quote" from someone whom you forgot to credit. My bad, if it was your own comments and statement, but what I wrote remains the same. I just mentioned about the Amish children murders because it was such a tragedy, inflicted on people who are known throughout the world as being quiet, plain and leading simple lives (I won't get into the whole puppy mill issue here, because that's another topic for another time). I am not so sure I could ever forgive someone who murdered my child, it is such a horrendous act and I suppose it does take a really, really strong human being to be able to carry on afterwards. (The book I read was excellent in that it showed just how angry and hurt and devastated these families were and how they did everything they could to get past it -- they did not make it sound as if it is an easy thing to do and surely, they still live with it these few years later. I imagine it's a daily struggle with something that sad). Cyn, you say that you "guess" you're human -- you are human - - just like everyone else here. I commend you on saying that you are not a big enough person to forgive and forget -- at least you acknowledge that it is a "work in progress" -- because it is. In your being human, you are "very sensitive" to negative vibes -- have you thought about how others are made to feel during the exchanges? I know for a fact that as much as anyone wants to reach out to you to make peace, you refuse to let it go, so it becomes frustrating for everyone all around. I hope you can see this. My message to you initially was just that. I will tell you Cyn, that I NEVER have treated you wrongly, I NEVER have called you names (as you have me, when you collectively call us stupid, dumb, etc.). If you would only ever read what a person writes, absorb it, question it if you'd like, but please do not judge everyone here the way in which you do. It simply is not fair and it is not cool. And I'm not one of "these people" (this is another thing that you do, you sort of set yourself above everyone else here by using such terms as "you people" "those people" "those 7-8 people"). I am me, Pat Parker. I have treated everyone here with respect and ask for the same in return -- I don't always get it, but it's okay -- I forgive and forget! Regarding your friend's death -- that is very said and you are 100% correct - - this place (the forum) should not even be the focus of your attention right now. The arguments that go on here are trite ALL THE TIME, but especially if you have something more personal happening in your life, it does put it in perspective. You are correct -- everything in the Real World takes precedence over this virtual world -- even going to the dentist! -- because this place is not "real" -- it is a great place to come and enjoy ourselves and carry on and we can meet real people here (sometimes in person), but it should never, ever take the place of our real world. (That's just my opinion, of course). Lastly, Cyn, you should take the time to grieve for your friend and perhaps you find solace here on the moon during this time -- that's great. And just as many others before you, recognize that we all suffer the loss of family, friends, etc., -- it is a fact of life . . . and death. I think that is why it is so important to be able to learn to forgive and forget. Life's too short to carry around regrets and anger -- again, just my opinion.

Well, I only replied to comments and never started them - I never started all this crap in the first place - I posted on a thread about having trouble, like some one else, in changing my name. moonstorm, who has a great dislike for me, starts off with a "why do you what to change your name, who are you? Ms. Mountain? I replied, that I didn't know what she was talking about - and in the context of my post, I didn't, also she did use my last name in a public forum - I think if someone uses there full name, like you do Pat that's okay - and I use my full name at Facebook - but I don't use my real name here. Anyway, moonstorm's post started all the crap - but as usual I was blamed to starting up "the trouble at the forum" I believe Darcy said something to that effect. When I said I had been posting here since August as Zanti Misfit then Jadzia, I was called a liar, "a higher up" told them I wasn't. I provided two emails from Real World with the dates August 4th 2011 Zanti made her first appearance. I posted peacefully and with no trouble - once moonstorm "outed" me the trouble began. It seemed I was damned if I did and damned if I didn't. If I replied to the nasty comments - somehow I was worse than them - then one by one the core group that dislike me so much (about 7 or started their little song and dance. But I really had to take note of rraven/rena/wild guess "we can hope she drops dead" and I took that to the main PG forum page. Can you imagine if I had said that, rraven would have called the cops on me. Rev. Bob goes over to the Wolf's Den, where I have the right to post whatever - Lupe allows anything and no banning etc. Of course once the rant was out of my system I deleted the posts. Bob goes off the rails about that - I didn't read his strange post that clear cause it made me sick in it's hatred - and I did have the stomach flu. The questions in a public form and discussions about my mental health had me puzzled - everyone has problems now and then - mine is depression - yet it was used here to mock me and make fun of me - nasty stuff Don't understand this "fantasy world" I'm living in - I am living in the real world here in Nanaimo with my daughter - and I don't mention it that often. The Army kick, someone complained about, seemed obvious to me - My first real job was in the army reserve starting July 1973 to July 1974 - the Old Timers Facebook page is new and I was asked to join, I have a good memory for some of the things that happened and they seem to like some of the stories. It brought back memories to hear about old friends from that time - to see a current pic of my major crush Cpl. Stewart was great. I figured, like you said Pat - no one comes here - and I can use this thread almost like a personal blog - it says we can posting info etc. here. So I did, mostly honing my memories of being in the army in the big city of Vancouver, then posting them over there. Now why would someone creature a thread mocking this one - and with a "warning" about it - I didn't expect anyone to read this thread and I wasn't really posting it, hoping everyone would read it. That other thread is so out of line, and it will just make people check my thread out of curousity. Then Bob, Jen and others started posting here - to hi-jack this thread - just to be nasty, I don't know but it was nuts and nasty and very very creepy Out of this core group of 7 or 8, I got into referring to them as the Rotten Core of the PG Forum - and it is obvious to outsiders that they are bullys when a group picks on one person - with taunts, ridicule and lies - well they are bullys the only way I could carry on was not to read their post - but the first line was posted on the from page on the title so sometimes I couldn't help but read some of that crap I get along with people at the Wolf's Den and having fun at the Old Timers page, reading some of the stories - and I've found a couple of army pictures I had and posted them - hard to find because twice (not once) but twice I have lost everything I own. I think the worst things I saw at the main page, was perfectly innocent people being accused of being me (like that's the worst crime in the world) and seeing the person scared off this forum. Even AreBor who is obviously a man - and a very fair one, who speaks his mind was accused of being "Cyn" and he put the people straight on that one. Why I am referred to as Cyn, I don't know - this is one place where I don't like my real name to be used, because of the hostility and a person here who seems to be emotionally troubled - don't want that in my real life. So, this rotten core don't know anything about me or my real life - and anything I may have told Jen when we were friends - and that she passed on, well, don't believe her, because she had a way of interpreting my words, and she was always getting it wrong - and she said things to me about Peter Gabriel and his wife that I did not spread around, so people in glass houses should not throw stones - it was amazing to me how I could say something, and she'd get it wrong in the way she read it - So there's my side - I hope the snipes and nasty comments will end and we can just enjoy the forum. remember, I did not start this crap and I'm not checking for typos and spelling errors, have at it

I can only control my actions. I have never told anyone the private stuff you have said to me especially the "astral" stuff as I don't want to cause more problems for you Cyn. I really dislike this: and she said things to me regarding Peter Gabriel and his wife that I did not spread around, so people in glass houses should not throw stones - it was amazing to me how I could say something, and she'd get it wrong in the way she read it - Just like how you tried to "out" me regarding Rraven getting banned, you think you are being sly but I see right through you, only hinting that I may have said something "bad" about PG (and it wasn't) incredibly childish and despicable. If anyone gives a Fu*k - since Cyn is so into the paranormal, I told her something that I had a feeling about (1 thing) and immediately regretted it. She was like a dog with a bone. I am not going to say what that thing was because it's unfounded and can be construed as gossip. Has anyone on the PG fansite ever at least once wondered about something in his personal life -? My bet is yes. Cyn I told you we could co-exist and I plan to try to do just that but if you continue to drag my name into things and try to stir shit up just know that I have not shared any of the private stuff you said to me but I've saved ALL of the emails and I can be pushed into sharing. That is not a veiled threat it is a promise. Pat Nice try but she will never accept any responsibility for her part in anything. As I said I can only control what I do.
