Its name means "one who thinks before (acting)," The opposite of his brother Epimetheus, "who thinks before"
Prometheus was a giant very creative.
On a block of clay he modeled the first man, and to help it survive went to steal a spark in the sun, against the will of Zeus , offered to men who during his absence, had multiplied. (Or, according to Plato, imagine not knowing the man to give way to survive, flew to Hephaestus and Athena knowledge of art and the fire because the fire without the knowledge of the arts was impossible and unnecessary .)
After this insult to the sovereign power of Zeus, he conceived of a second, which is sure to irritate the master of Olympus.
At the request of Zeus, after participating with humans, the sacrifice of an ox in the plain of Mecon , he cut and made two shares.
In a skin stained with blood and unsavory, he packed the best pieces, and in a clean and very white skin he wrapped the remaining bones.
Prometheus then offered to take some of Zeus.
The latter, attracted by the most beautiful skin, choose one containing only bones.
Furious for having been fooled, Zeus decided to take revenge on humans and Prometheus.
To the men he sent Pandora , the beautiful woman created by Hephaestus , who opened her famous box , spread on earth all the evil in the world.
As for Prometheus, Hephaestus Zeus sent the follow up on the wall of Mount Caucasus.
Then he ordered an eagle devouring the liver of his prisoner.
When the eagle plunged its beak into the right flank of Prometheus could hear her screaming to the top of Olympus, to the great satisfaction of Zeus. Every night rejected the liver so that each day the eagle to devour him.
Her ordeal lasted a long time, but one day Heracles heard the cries of the unfortunate and came (with the consent of Zeus who had calmed the meantime) cut the eagle and issue Prometheus.
Prometheus from Zeus receives immortality of the centaur Chiron , so that it can finally find the rest succumbed to injuries he has unintentionally imposed Heracles who are suffering terribly.
In gratitude, Prometheus, who had inherited a gift of clairvoyance from Gaea , told Heracles how to pick the golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides .
But Zeus who chose voluntarily or not . bones, parts immortal, and incorruptible of inedible animal, confirming its status as an immortal, while humans inheriting the good parts, but perishable, were condemned to dependence on food and mortality.
Since when men eat, the food is deadly for them, and the smells and aromas that escape and climb to Olympus for the gods are.
It was once a time when the gods existed, but not deadly species.
When the time that fate had assigned to their creation came, the gods shaped it into the bowels of the earth with a mixture of earth and fire elements that combine fire and earth. When the moment to bring to light approached, they charged Prometheus Epimetheus and to provide and assign to each suitable. But to Prometheus Epimetheus asked him to leave it alone sharing. His request granted, he shares it, and in doing so, he attributed to one force without the speed, the other speed without the strength he gave weapons to them, refused them to those, but he devised for them other means of preservation, for those of them that he lived in a small body, it gave wings to escape or refuge underground, and for those who had the advantage of large, their size is sufficient to keep them and he applied this method of compensation to all animals. These precautions were intended to prevent loss of races. But when he had given them the means to avoid mutual destruction, he wanted to help them withstand the seasons of Zeus : he devised for it to be of thick hair and skin tight enough to protect them from cold, able also protect against heat and for finally serve time for sleep, blankets natural fit for each of them and gave them further as shoes or hoof horn, or calloused skin and lack of blood, then it provides a variety of foods depending on the species, with some grass from the ground, other fruit trees, other roots, with some even gave other animals to eat, but he limited their fertility and multiplied that of their victims, to ensure the salvation of the race.
But Epimetheus, who was not very thoughtful, had, without noticing it, the animals spent all faculties at his disposal and he was the human race to fill and he did not know what to do.
In this perplexity, Prometheus came to consider sharing:
He sees the animals well endowed, but the naked man without shoes or blankets, no weapons, and the appointed day approached when he had to bring the land within the light.
So Prometheus, imagine not knowing the man to give way to keep flies at Hephaestus and Athena knowledge of art and the fire because the fire without the knowledge of the arts was impossible and unnecessary, and This makes the man.
The man was so science to maintain its own life.

In Slavic mythology, Koschei (Russian: Ð?оÑ?еÌй, Koshchey, also Kashchei or Kashchey or KoÅ?ciej (Polish) or Ukrainian: Ð?оÑ?Ñ?й, Koshchiy) is an evil person of ugly senile appearance, menacing principally young women. Koschei is also known as Koschei the Immortal or Koschei the Deathless (Russian: Ð?оÑ?еÌй Ð?еÑÑмеÌÑ?Ñ?нÑ?й, Ukrainian: Ð?оÑ?Ñ?й Ð?езÑмеÑ?Ñ?ний), as well as Tzar Koschei. As is usual in Russian transliterations, there are numerous other spellings, such as Koshchei, Kashchej and Kaschei. The spelling in Russian and other Slavic languages (like Polish "KoÅ?ciej") suggests that his name may be derived from the word kost' (rus. коÑÑ?Ñ?, pol. koÅ?Ä?) meaning 'bone', implying a skeletal appearance. Alternate etimology of the name is from turquian (not to be confused with turkish) word koshchi, meaning slave (in slavic vocabulary, word slave sometimes means archenemy).
Koschei cannot be killed by conventional means targeting his body. His soul is hidden separate from his body inside a needle, which is in an egg, which is in a duck, which is in a hare, which is in an iron chest (sometimes the chest is crystal and/or gold), which is buried under a green oak tree, which is on the island of Buyan, in the ocean. As long as his soul is safe, he cannot die. If the chest is dug up and opened, the hare will bolt away. If it is killed, the duck will emerge and try to fly off. Anyone possessing the egg has Koschei in their power. He begins to weaken, becomes sick and immediately loses the use of his magic. If the egg is tossed about, he likewise is flung around against his will. If the egg or needle is broken (in some tales this must be done by specifically breaking it against Koschei's forehead), Koschei will die.
All this is strongly related to German myths of liches, dead sorcerors' ghosts which need to keep their phylacteries safe, due to these items hold their souls bound to real world, and cannot be destroyed other then through shattering the specified item. Due to this, some translators use koshchey as noun to translate word lich.
In Ukraine Koschei is called Chakhlyk from chakhnut meaning 'dried away', which describes the process of dehydration and turning into dust.
