This is so frightening Du-du. Even with recycling so much plastic is not recycle-able. I saw an image of the contents of a seagulls stomach and most of it was plastic rubbish. I hate to think how much is sloshing around the sea taking centuries to breakdown and even then it remains in the soil.
I agree - how can we help? There are lots of ways we can cut down personally (re-using stuff, having your own bags etc) and there are loads of websites/organisations which want to help, but I don't think that stops production in any way. Aren't plastics made from oil originally, which is a finite resource. I feel fairly ignorant about that.
