I've previously mentioned CALLAS (
http://www.callas-newmedia.eu) on this forum. It's an EU funded project to develop emotionally aware and expressive interfaces for media applications. The idea is that the content will respond dynamically and naturally to the audience's emotional response, so that instead of the interface being a layer between the audience and the content, it's a natural part of the content that draws the user in.
It struck me as a project that Peter Gabriel (or other people on the forums) might be interested in this project, especially after Peter mentioned in a Full Moon Club video about being interested in the idea of an "emotional toolkit" (he was talking about "I Grieve").
As part of CALLAS, I'm conducting an online experiment to train a neural network to recognise the emotional content of gestures. The idea is that you see a video of an animated character performing a gesture, tell the system how you think the character feels, and the system will learn from your responses which features of body language correspond to different emotional states. Please have a look at
http://callas.kw.bbc.co.uk/EmotionRecognition.html and try it out. The more data I can collect, the more accurately the system should work.
