This is just my means of a small description to illustrate my thoughts and feeling about the particular images I have chosen. This project contains images that are deeply personal and emotional in a sense I have exposed myself through this work to reveal aspect of my inner world which are fragile, with a sensitive perception of light, a feelings of serenity, sensuality and mystery. A partition between random and selective vision. My work is meant to represent a departure from the picture sign idea of the photograph, as well as from the historical and cultural expectations surrounding the idea that a photograph will describe, document, and narrate landscape photography, portraiture, and photojournalisme. I approach photography as picture making rather than picture taking. The artworks produce from this processes is considered pionnering, linked conceptually and contextually to each other in different ways. These pictures contribute to the discourse around abstraction and minimalism in the field of contempory visual art that happens to have its roots in photography. Working often with only the most ephemerate of substance, light and shape, allow to create vibrant, luminous images that challenge the viewer?s intuitive responses. Drawn in large format, 80 x 90, this photographs are prints on arche drawing paper, that gives these images a velvety matte and delicately containing of this beauty unveiled. I hope it makes sense to you. Gil Plante
