In June of 2008, I initiated a project in Canada called ?The Vet?. ?The Vet? (?Folded Flags? in America), are three-song CDs, which I produced with the express objective that the profits gleaned from the sale of the CD should go directly to the organizations who support our military veterans. In Ontario, the CD is already available at Legion branches 258 and 606, with many more expected to come on board pending the okay from their Executive Committees.
My original intention was to make the CD available to Legions and Veteran Halls only, but from the beginning in Ontario, other military organizations asked to be included in the initiative. Currently, the Governor General?s Horse Guards Association (Ontario branch) and the 48th Highlanders Sergeants? Mess are also selling the CD with profits going to their respective organizations.
My intention with this initiative was not only to aid in the financial well-being of worthy organizations, but also to spread awareness about a segment of our society to whom we owe so much. In one of the songs, the line says, ?the old soldiers are fading away?. I believe that through the medium of popular music we can make their contribution to our society live on for this generation, and generations to come.
I am not a "military person" and do not believe in armed conflict. The songs are(THE VET) a tribute to my father and (Folded Flags) an indictment against the mistreatment of American army vets by their government.
