I was a subscriber to the Box magazine and later to Real World Notes. In one of those magazine, Peter explained he worked with a visual artist (was it Nils Udo) to create a totally new video for the track "accross the river". Is there someone who knows what happended to this video? It would have been great to see it included in the Peter Gabriel "PLAY" DVD.

After looking on Google, i found some more informations about Nils Udo who worked with Peter in 1996 for a music video project for the campaign VWF living planet - Vancouver Island. The song was "accross the river". I remember Nils Udo used burning candles flowting on a river for this video, which unfortunately never see the light of day.

Nils Udo is an artist from Gemany, who is searching for the "art in the nature" - I think it is called "environmental art" - just like Andy Goldsworthy from UK (see "US"-booklet - "Washing of the Water"). Nils Udo worked on the "EVE"-CD-ROM (the last of 4 worlds in this game - actually "paradise" with music from "Passion" and art-works by Nils Udo). He also created the "OvO"-art work with the "Nest" plus the images inside of the booklet. I do recall what you describe there with that "music video" from one article I read on "MTV-video-text" around that time 1996/97, but not sure if "Across the River" was mentioned. I was awaiting this clip, but it never came out. One text passage from this article was like this, i think: ". . .everything was filmed near Real World studios." Maybe some of that video-footage was used for the "EvE-CD-ROM.

at least there is one excellent video clip by Glenn Marshall of "The Nest That Sailed The Sky" featuring the "Nest with the Boy" by Nils Udo from the "OvO"-cover inside the computer designed/animated clip. A video-clip that could be featured on a PG-DVD-future release - it actually DESERVES that place.

Interesting question, Sammy. Sometimes PG starts projects and never finishes them. It is possible that this video was another one of those or money ran out or footage wound up in EVE. Or, Interpol discovered that if you play the "Across the River" video backwards, it revealed the exact location of the center of the universe. Surely this must be guarded because if the universe's center were to be touched or moved in any way, it would no longer be the center and the entire universe would go out of balance, cause mayhem and - even worse - PEOPLE WHO TYPE ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS. In order to prevent such a catastrophe, the UK governement secretly planted a garden gnome in PG's bathroom medicine cabinet. The garden gnome produced pheremones to make PG foreget all about completeing the Across the River video and instead go skiing with elephants. Well - hey - could happen - and it's better than any explanation you're gonna get from Real World :-]
