Hope has vanished. Only 2 unreleased tracks...on Vinyl !!! Who cares about Vinyl? I don't have a player anymore. What about Don't break this Rhythm, Curtains etc ? Why no 5.1 of So ? It's difficult to make this any worse.

Any hint on why "Red Rain" was omitted? Guessing it had to be a seriously flawed performance or seriously great video for this show to get selected and such a signature song left off.

Wow, I cannot believe there's not a blu-ray option. What the hell? They release SWL on blu-ray from 16mm elements, PoV was shot in 35mm and gets stuck on DVD-only? What a waste! Personally, I was waiting and saving my money for this box...but I can't justify spending $150 on CD's and DVD's only. Heck, the Classic Album doc is coming OUT on blu-ray. They've lost a sure sale from this fan by not including any hi-res version of the album. Come on, Peter, you used to champion hi-res formats, and now you put out a massive box like this that's extremely expensive and it's SD only?! I don't get it. And I'm completely let down...

Only DVD?? Hmm. I'm guessing it's because they're "saving" the HDef stuff for us mugs who'll buy the box set heh the individual blu rays later... I was so looking forward to this, and I always look on the bright side when i can, but ...well, I'm pretty disappointed. The two (is that all??) unreleased tracks on vinyl too?? Jeez, I have a record player in the loft but I ain't gonna dust that old thing off... On the other hand So DNA looks like it's worth having... And maybe the Classic Albums programme IF there's extra footage not shown on TV...? Looks like it's time for us to pay for the Year of Interesting Things

No b-sides, remixes, or unreleased tracks...no sale.

SO disappointing.. I am not getting this. Spoke to peter fan friends and they got down... In Your Eyes mixes, the b sides... these new tracks on vynil only. It seems like a bad joke...

Another puzzling thing: the box includes vinyl, which -along qith the price point - says to me it's geared more toward the audiophile fan...but then there's no hi-res audio or HD video at all. Not only that, but they made sure that the one thing casual fans really wanted (PoV) is ONLY in the box, putting it financially out of reach for those who don't want/need the extra bells and whistles. It's really insulting. Just imagine...how much more would they rack in of they JUST released 1) Athens on blu-ray and DVD as a standalone release and 2) a FOUR CD set with a b-side disc included? I guarantee that would've pleased far more fans than this. And made far more money. img src="/_global/images/icons/smiley-confuse.png" />igh:: I don't get it. This entire thing feels like a slap in the face to the people who love the music.

I wonder how this "remaster" of So is different from the remaster I bought several years ago. Was it remastered again?

at £96 for the deluxe box set on Amazon, I really was hoping for something along the lines of the U2 Achtung Box, the album, the remixes, the Bsides and other gems from the era previously unavailable. To have the couple of extra tracks on Vynl only seems completely crackers to me - the only people I know with turntables these days have them plugged into their PC's for ripping their old collection! I had high hopes for this as So is my favourite album, and while I never expected to get my full wish-list (oh it included things like a re-recorded don't give up with Kate singing Peter's part and vica versa!) I did rather expect that the BSides would at least get a spit & polish. I think I have better things to be spending £96 on. Gutted

The whole thing's a big let down. The balance between content over the 3 formats seems wrong. I've moaned enough about it in the other threads. This was the opportunity to pull together all the associated tracks from the era. I honestly don't understand why it wasn't possible to create a package which included the remastered album, a disc of b-sides & unreleased plus the DVD. That would have made a nice 3-disc set, especially if boxed or in a mini hardback book type of package. You'd probably pay a bit more for it, but I think something like that would have had much wider appeal and catered to all fans and budgets. Instead, I could have a live album I'll rarely play, since I'd prefer to see the visuals with it... or unreleased tracks I'll never hear as I don't own a record player! Probably better off going for the 3-disc and waiting for POV to come out on DVD on it's own, as it's bound to, surely.

The only reason that would explain there's no B sides and other unreleased material from SO is that an Odds and Sods boxed set with everything from 1977 to 2012 would be in the pipeline.
Alex S 15 August 2012 at 3:24pm Posts: 259 (0 today) Status: offline
Hasn't that been in the pipeline for 10 or 12 years?!

Unfortunately my prediction seems to have been accurate - ". . . as with most of these re-release packages, the motive is easy money, so I expect it will be ridiculously over priced and offer a thin but tempting offering to hardcore fans. . . . I hope I'm wrong (ie - either it won't be over priced or it won't be tempting)"
