But Flac is only a format of "losseless".
Blueray-players can play 24-bit/192kHz and most of the music-blurays is 24-bit/96kHz.

Flac can handle anything up to 32/192.
I got loads of high rez vinyl rips, some of them essentially master recordings.
All on FLAC.
I'm telling you, the change is happening.
People want flexible files, not spending loads on a SACD system.
However i would like PG to release something on Blu-ray as a substitute, since the SACD catalogue is never coming back.

Yes i know. But what i mean is:
Flac is a audioformat like .ALAC, .WAV and .AIFF !
We dont need a flac standalone player, we need a player that can handle 32bit/192kHz streamed or CD/Bluray/DVD etc. That can take FLAC or other looseless formats.
I also hope that PG release some new (and old) music/videos on blueray!
Have a nice day!

But that is what the market misses, nobody wants to connect their computer to their home cinema over optical.
Neither is streaming a viable option, because of the bit-rate it cannot be streamed without glitching.
When a standalone player with an internal hard drive + - music store gets released SACD is as good as dead.
People like boxes as long as they do something, i use my high rez files via optical and its a hassle.

I completely disagree.
They will always be a market for those who listen to Vinyl, Hi-Rez music in FLAC/APE/AAC. etc and SACD.
Funny how all major Hi-End companies still produce new models of SACD players and since oppo's released a universal player that reads SACD, all second-and SACD Disc's on eBay, craigslist or whatever have seen the prices go sky-high.
They are different market segments.
The truth is when someone loves a certain artist he will most certainly want to acquire his music in a material form! Yes I agree that the digital form of music on your hard-drive has some interesting features but it is a format that has a bigger acceptance amongst the young generations (aka the iPod generation).
It's called making a music collection! And a music buff (the ones that actually are willing to buy records and refuse to download illegal mp3 music) will always prefer to have a hardcopy with art cover has intended by the artist. I think that one of the main reasons LP's are still out there is due to the nostalgic feeling that the older generations have regarding its art cover that had a completely different impact, the ritual of choosing which record one wants placing it on the turntable.
Compact Disc in the other hand is surviving only because publishers want to.
Because the trough is people who would by music these days are those that want to have music in a physical format and most of those are people that are either audiophile are looking for another high quality feature. CD should have died a long time ago.
There should be two completely different market segments for digital music:
1: Physical Format: SACD (ok hybrids so that it can be implemented naturally on the market)
2: Digital Format selled via Download: FLAC in with ever bit depth and sample rate (cheaper than SACD) and mp3 for the iPod generation (very cheap. almost free)
The reality is that once you've mastered an album in DSD you can achieve all the other formats with the same investment. So you just have to put you music available for download on a server and don't have any distribution costs.
Vinyl and SACD should remain and be the only physical format available.
They are targeted to other kind of market, people who want their music in a physical format. and those are willing to pay more for it! It's a niche.
Have or haven't all PG Remastered Catalogue in SACD disappeared completely from the music store shelf and are now selling at ridiculous prices on the internet? And people actually buy them!
Those that aren't willing to pay for an SACD are the same that aren't willing to pay for a Compact Disc!
Sony/Phillips should have published more mainstream music in order to have market acceptance! 10 years have passed and most people never heard of SACD!!!
One other thing that hasn't been a good marketing strategy for the SACD penetration is its copyright protection. If you look to the market penetration of all the formats available all of those that have had good acceptance, people whore able to make copies. and distribute between them.
It's quite logic if have an open mind. When someone really likes the music he will most certainly want to purchase the music and have it on a physical format!
To sum it up.
If PG whole catalog would be re-printed in SACD It would sell.
EMI finally understood that and are remastering all of Pink Floyd's catalogue in DSD and will be distributing in SACD (I only hope that instead of publishing SACD's and CD's they will only distribute hybrid SACD) and Hi-Rez PCM Formats such as FLAC available for download and PCM on blu-ray.
Although Blu-ray for music isn't the way to go. because if you want PCM formats from a DSD master there is no reason not to get it in FLAC instead of PCM on BD!
Peter and RealWorld.
Please continue to be a supporter of DSD Mastering and SACD publishing! I know that B&W wants to push the envelope to publish music on the web. but both of them can live side by side.
Who are the people that are willing to pay for Hi-Res music? Audiophiles. Most of them still prefer a material format either in Vinyl or SACD!

Hi!
Is there an actual petition to sign or just this thread. I would like to join you in this wish as PG's sound and artistry deserve the high-res medium. A re-release would channel all that big dough that is paid on ebay for the last copies to PG and his label. He should be able to understand it.
