Dear "Lunatic" fellows and fans of SACD, Now that we have had word from Peter about the (potential) re-release of his back catalog in 2011, let's try to convince Realworld and the other labels involved to go for a reissue of the SACD versions as well. The reasons are quite obvious, let me just mention the most important ones. 1. A lot of work went into these SACD editions and the results were quite good, and in general the SACD versions were a quantum leap better than the corresponding 2002 remaster "plain" CDs. 2. There is a demand for these editions as the prices on e-bay and other places show. Though this demand may well be somewhat limited to audiophile/SACD aficionados, I presume the demand is no less than that of the vinyl community, and we now see vinyl flourish everywhere. There was also a long period of time when vinyl was thought to be dead, and still it has "resurrected" and is now alive and kicking. I suppose that is likely to happen with SACD, and it would be nice if PG, who has always been at the forefront of audio perfection (as demonstrated today by his being Fellow and Curator of the Society of Sound), could also be the flagship in this fight to keep SACD and other high-rez formats alive against the massive current of mass-produced, junk-quality, over-compressed formats (such as MP3/4) that reduce musical enjoyment to background muzzak and "fast food" for the soul. 3. To be sure, SACD is not totally dead as of now. There are a number of labels (especially in Japan) which do come out with new SACD versions of older releases (e.g. Astor Piazzolla's famous records), there have also been a few waves of recent releases of Japanese SHM-SACD editions of certain albums, some of which utilise a new (i.e. 2010) DSD remasters of the original materials. Also, SACD players are still widely manufactured and sold, so I see no reason why artists should completely abandon the format just because some executives in the music industry think it produces insufficient profit for THEM. So, if you happen to agree with this petition please do join me and let us make our voices heard. The minimum objective we should reach is convince Peter & Co. to persuade EMI Japan to reissue PG's back catalog on SACD at least in Japan, where the format is still undoubtedly alive and sells reasonably. Then all of us interested could at least order our copies from Japan. Thanks for reading all this, and "I hope some day you'll join us" ! Best wishes, Peter Antonyi (Hungary)

Thanks for creating this thread, the thing i'm most interested in is just INFO about the SACDs. I wish there was someway i could get in touch with someone at RealWorld to ask about the issue. I just want to know the answer, instead of letting time tell. Paying 500$ for Melt on Ebay is NOT needed

Hi(gh) Fidelity , Thanks for your support. I am not sure who you should contact at Real World, someone in another petition thread for the SACD version of SMB mentioned that they contacted Real World (maybe Richard Chappell) and the answer was that it was NOT going to happen, unfortunately. Let's hope the reissue is an easier matter. But you are lucky up there in Norway (as your profile says) because there is a lot of great music being created there, especially in jazz. Beside the towering musicians like Jan Garbarek, Arild Andersen etc., I particularly like trumpeter/singer Arve Henriksen, he is just awesome and unique. Best wishes, Peti

We sure are lucky, but my tastes point more in american bigband jazz. Dave Brubeck/Desmond etc But i don't mind Norwegian classical, its just very common Sent a mail to RealWorld Records, if the answer is no i have a guy with some copies of Security and Birdy. I'll see if he has one for you, 24 euros each.

Hi Fidelity, Actually, I do have all the SACD versions apart from "Car", so this thread was kind of an "unselfish" move by me because I know how much better they are. But thanks anyway for your offer to help. A for big band music, I don't know if you like Gil Evans' work with Miles Davis (not typical big band music, though) but I have recently found out that Arve Henriksen with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble have made a re-make of Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis, one of my all-time favourite jazz records, so that will be a treat for me from Norway when I order it ! I don't mean to argue in matters of taste, of course, and I understand what you mean by "common" in some sense, but some of Garbarek's early stuff is really utmost progressive, e.g. Afric Pepperbird (1970) is just crazy in the best sense , plus Garbarek's work with one of Peter's favourite collaborator, Indian double-violinist Shankar is also outstanding. So, I have actually discovered a lot of great music through the network of collaborations between my musical heroes, including Peter, of course! Best, Peti

Interesting! - I've been planning on checking some of the RealWorld artists out on the sideline. I'm in a phase of exploring music these days, i like a lot of classical music. Beethoven and Mozart in particular, thankfully SACD caters to my classical music needs. Did you catch the documentary on PG from the iPlayer? - Wondering where i can get the 1st episode since i missed it Where did you get your SACDs? When did you get them?

Hello Fidelity, Sorry, I was busy for a while. I got my PG SACDs here in Hungary one by one, they were quite expensive, and then in 2007/2008 a Hungarian internet vendor had them on sale for about 10€ each, so I grabbed 3 of them that I really wanted, but I did not get PG1 because I thought I did not like that album that much anyway. How I regret not having bought it because of my premature opinion. you can well imagine!!! Best, Peti

Sorry, the gibberish is the Euro symbol, they were 10 Euros when on sale. Peti

Are the SACDs hybrid?
Fidelity 18 November 2010 at 8:31am Posts: 313 (0 today) Status: offline
Some, that were released in Europe is hybrid. Buying Security and Birdy from a friend of mine, those are hybrid. Also all UP releases were hybrid i think.
Fidelity 18 November 2010 at 8:31am Posts: 313 (0 today) Status: offline
Correction: All euro releases were hybrid.

It is really a pain for a PG fan trying to find PG SACD albums and no chance to find them. I bought one by one all the albums. First releases and then remastered versions and then some of the SACD ones. Now my wife wants to buy those SCAD versions which I didn't buy as a gift to me. But no chance !!! And I am wondering why PG is not thinking about it. I want to say now:" WE WANT THOSE SACD versions TO BE RELEASED AGAIN". ::frown:: ::frown:: ::frown::

I would also like to see a reprint of the back catalogue in SACD hybrid format. If they ever bring the back catalogue out again they would only need to do it in the hybrid format as that could be played in normal cd players too. I only managed to get 4 of the SACD discs before they became unable everywhere.

I don't think i'll happen - SACD is dying. The future is in high-rez Flac. Once they release a handy standalone player for it, SACD is dead.
