I couldn't find out who wrote the lyrics to Whole Thing, as it's not listed on the CD. I don't think it was Peter, but could be wrong. The song hit me like knife when I first heard a clip on this site. Let's just say I have an active dream life. The songs PG writes or chooses to sing seem to have an uncanny way of seeming to peek into your head and talk to your problems or preoccupations.

. . .I'm sure I read somewhere that the lyrics were by Andy White - he's an Irish folk singer-songwriter and WOMAD regular.

That rings a bell! Thanks, Mr. Beef.

Just to back up Mr Beef - the song appears on Andy's website. http://www.andywhite.com/lyrics.html

Thanks Mr Beef and Duddy. . .I've always wondered as well just who had written the lyrics! Raven. . .couldn't agree with you more about "Whole Thing" and what PG chooses to write/sing. Peter's music has a way of reaching into the inner depths of one's soul in a way that's uniquely Gabriel! The song "Whole Thing" actually led me to this website. . .it's a long story. . .another time! :-]

Ok. . .you asked for it Raven! Be carful what you wish for! :-] One day, driving home from work in my car listening a personal favorite radio station (WFUV ~ Fordham University), I began to wonder what the heck PG had been up to. . .any tours coming up. . .new music, etc. At the time I was a bit out of touch with the PG scene. . .his latest projects, etc., and obviously unaware of the release of BBB which I believe was June, 2008. Strangely, moments later, the DJ announced something like, "Here is a song called "Whole Thing" from Peter Gabriel's latest project, Big Blue Ball. Naturally, I was all ears. . .cranked up the volume and instantly fell in love with the song. That day (I believe it was October, 200, the moment I got home from work, immediately went to the computer to first of all order the CD from Amazon and second to google what the scoop was on this "latest project" called "Big Blue Ball". In doing so I found the moon, a plethora of PG info, and a plethora of some amazing PG fans to boot! So, there you have it! "Whole Thing" brought Mak to the moon and am very glad I was listening to that radio station, that day, on my way home from work! The rest is history!

Nice story MAK, you never told me. You should add it to Jen's "Why are you here?"-thread in the General section if you haven't already done so.

thanks for sharing Mak, you'll find a piece of poetry to the level "educate Peter" posted thinking of you. Why not fill the room of that level with such stories? sur if he "intrudes" from time to time, he will be pleased to read all aour noddle stories. something else: about witness, though about a direct sending to Tina of pieces of poetry "given freely" to witness in order to be sold. it's a definitive gift, for a good purpose. the only thing would be poems ending as Peter's song positively. It would deal with any subjects "witness" is dealing with : human right sharing whatever you may like to transmit as postive message around. off topic but what about the idea? painters has been doing it, why not writters ?

Interesting idea Ms K. . .why don't you present it to Tina?

Cause, I'm kinnda decision blocked those days ! :-] But I find three appropriate : one of my pupils one given to me by a friend and one of mine very similar in spirit to 46664. That should fit ! thanks for the shacking Make. But in my mind the poems should be linked with a "visual"add, such as the last one you wrote on Mozo video. Should be great to try to read it loud and send the recording to mozo in order he'd joined both images and your lecture.

An OK song, reminds me of Morris Albert's "Felings" Peter did way better than that.
