Forums » Music » PG with Daniel Lanois again

Would anybody else love to hear the results of PG and Daniel Lanois working together again? I for one, would love for them to work together again. Peter mentioned that after SMB, he wants to concentrate on his own songs - maybe this would be the right opportunity to get Lanois back in the studio.?

Good to see you here again Alex. I'm with you! Would be an excellent time to get Gabriel and Lanois back together. I believe there is "magic" in the air when these two work together. Here is a very cool clip of them together. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScYN8-FJRGI

Such a wonderful clip that, thanks MAk. I guess they've done 2 albums together now and get on well by all accounts. Depends what's next inside that amazing head of PG's and anyway anything can change along the way as we know! :-]

. . .even 3 albums : "Birdy", "So" and "Us". Peter and Daniel also got together for the "PLAY the Videos"-DVD. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Daniel Lanois and his music on the Realworld-label : 1. he produced the album by African artists "Farafina". 2. a beautiful instrumental piece - or I MUST say JEWEL is the track "El Conquistador" on the album "Plus From Us" by Various Artists (featuring musicians who played on "Us") 3. the track "454" on the "Jam Nation"-album "Way Down Below Buffallo Hell" ( a "cousin" of the "Big Blue Ball"-album) - GREAT song. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - So far I`m glad that Bob Ezrin, the master took over the production-work on "Scratch my Back". For the FUTURE : I think - just spontaneous - a "reunion" of Peter Gabriel AND Daniel Lanois in the studio would end up with new and ground-breaking fine results - in other words : a great PG-rock-album.

I'm not sure that DL would be so keen - I remember reading that PG drove him half crazy with endless procrastination, leaving a trail of unfinished tracks in his wake (can you belive it?). At one point, during the recording of "So", this resulted in PG being locked in a cupboard until he finished some lyrics! Apparently PG was not so happy with this method of working, and got a bit cross about his imprisonment. DL saw the Realworld complex as being too much of an Aladdin's cave for PG, who was constantly distracted by whatever was going on there. . . I guess that DL must have been mighty relieved that he wasn't involved in the Big Blue Ball project.

I remember i read somewhere that PG intended to release a more "optimistic" album after "UP" with "lighter" songs comparing to those dark songs about death on "UP". What is surprising is that he talks again about releasing a future album in this way (he even talks about a "disco" album!!!), but i seriously doubt he will go this way. Listening to SMB, i wonder how he will return to a more traditional "rock" album. He seems to be in a different state of mind now probably because he gets older. But i hope i'm wrong and i wish he will release something else SOON!

Well, none of us can guarantee "SOON", but I feel PG has more surprises for all of us up his sleeve after SMB. One can see it in his eyes, the man is always thinking. Yes, thinking sometimes a bit too long, but I do believe that history tends to repeat itself. In PG's case that means great music, guaranteed to please. Mr. Beef. . .maybe PG and DL drove each other a bit crazy, I don't know for sure, but the end result, musically speaking, was wonderful. Nothing good comes easily in life, but if you view the clip posted above. . .seems to me that, in the long run, PG and DL seem to work together fairly well with GREAT end results. SO, I must agree with Alex and Cimber. . .quoting Cimber here. . . "For the FUTURE : I think - just spontaneous - a "reunion" of Peter Gabriel AND Daniel Lanois in the studio would end up with new and ground-breaking fine results - in other words : a great-PG-rock-album." I totally agree. . .well said!

I personally hope he was joking about disco!
Cimber 2 February 2010 at 8:55pm Posts: 2571 (0 today) Status: offline
Gabriel in "disco"-sound is not that bad at all - however you describe and define "disco-sound". If the RIGHT people do the RIGHT type of mixes of any Gabriel-track or tracks in the future, there is nothing against a "disco"-sound. The voice, sounds and music of PG has no frontiers and no barriers - he can rock in costumes in a prog-band or lift up his voice with a full classic orchestra playing in the back - it`s always a pleasure for my brain-cells.

I loathe disco but I guess if anyone could pull it off it might be PG.
