I think the best vocals on the album are for "Red Rain".His voice is a bit raucous(I hope I use the right word),so unique, like no other.I loooove this song! And I agree with you,Cimber, about the studio version.

SO has always been my favourite Peter's album, along with his first album - from fans surnamed "CAR" :-]- and with PASSION.
What I particularly love is the intimate atmosphere evocated by all lyrics, expecially by Mercy Street and In Your Eyes. These two tracks seem to translate the intimate way of life of Peter with their poetic images of memories taken directly from the Past.
Every time I was sad and depressed I listened to Don't Give Up and I was able to take from its lyrics all missing courage as well as life joy.
Thank you Peter for supporting me in every trouble and for accomplishing every sweet moment in my life through your splendid and unforgettable music.

One thing he needs to do is always bring Kate Bush with him when he's gonna do Don't Give Up. I love the female backing vocalists he uses but this song just doesn't sound right without her.

I do agree! :-] Kate Bush is unique!
And considering your nickname, I suppose you're a fan of Pink Floyd as well (like me!)

Pink Floyd is my favorite band. Always have been. David Gilmour and Peter are right there as the best vocalists in music as far as I'm concerned. I'm also obsessed with Porcupine Tree. Do you like them at all?

Unfortunately I don't know Porcupine Tree, but listening to a track selection I feel their music a little bit too 'heavy' for my tastes.
Instead I prefer listening to Sting and to Pat Metheny Group (of course when I am not listening to Peter) :-]

Porcupine Tree is brilliant but it's all Steven Wilson. They do get heavy at times and are always dark. Steven was influenced heavily by Pink Floyd and is taking up where they left off. Now that I know you like Sting and Pat Metheny I can see it not being your thing.
Peter is a bit on the dark side as well and very introspective like Floyd and PT. He does have the ability to make some very cheerful and upbeat songs when he wants to which is very unlike them all. I think 'On An Island' is just about as cheerful as I can imagine David Gilmour ever being. It's just not his style but that ability is what makes Gabriel different from everybody else also.
Anybody know of any good books about Peter Gabriel's life and music to read?
