Does anyone know if Peter Gabriel has ever performed "Kiss of Life" live? "Kiss of Life" happens to be a fav of mine and I've never seen anything live posted on youtube. Burning, burning with the kiss of life. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzPC7M6lQuE See me a big woman, big woman look how you dance See me a big woman, big woman caught in a trance Dancing on the tabletop, covered up with the Easter feast You're dancing for the fishermen, from the very large right to the least Dancing for the slow release, first the boy and then the beast then the beast Burning, burning with the kiss of life Burning, burning with the kiss of life See me, a big woman, big woman so full of life See me, a big woman, big woman going to be my wife Watching for the different eyes - they change your face - they come inside Watch the spirits laugh and cry, watch them find a place to hide Watch the spirits talk in tongues, watch them take you for a ride Down at the ocean lies a body in the sand Big woman sits beside, head in hand With heat from her skin, and fire from her breath She blows hard, she slows deep in the mouth of death Burning, burning with the kiss of life Burning, burning with the kiss of life Burning, burning with the kiss of life

I think this is an amazingly underrated song MAK. I don't know of any live version but Cimber or Mozo would, I guess. Great to dance to and in my mind pairs with Shaking the tree.

. . .this song was used by David Copperfield during his magical shows. . . Interesting - Copperfield used a few songs by PG: 1. "Rhythm Of The Heat" 2. "Kiss Of Life" 3. "Lay Your Hands On Me" 4. "In Your Eyes" (. . .probably there were more - I can`t remember) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - All songs from "Security/IV" were performed live - but I am not sure, if Peter ever performed "Kiss Of Life".

I agree about Kiss of Life being one of PG's underrated treasures Duddy. It's an amazing song IMO. Cimber. . .thanks, as usual, for the info. I never knew this about Copperfield. I tend to think that Kiss of Life was never performed live. . .I've never heard/seen a live recording of it anywhere. Maybe during the next tour. . .in the USA. . .how about it Peter? :-]

i reviewed a genesis oriented website awhile back that indicated all songs of PG I through IV have been performed live, but it did not provide specifics. sorry, but i did not bookmark it. i collect encore series CDs with the added rare song, but have not seen "kiss of life." additionally, i do not recall it being on any bootlegs i either own or reviewed. i very much would like to find live versions "kiss of life" and "and through the wire." underrated PG songs may be an idea for the 5x theme thread.

Thanks Mozo, as always, for the info. So, there must be a live recording of "Kiss of Life" out there somewhere! I'd love to hear it! "And Through the Wire", I agree, another underrated PG treasure which I'd also love to hear a live version. I'll have to think about that 5x theme thread underrated PG songs! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. . .

BTW. . . Does anyone know what PG is saying towards the end of the song in "Kiss of Life"?
Duddy 20 August 2009 at 6:37pm Posts: 5639 (0 today) Status: offline
Shake them and pat them - isn't it obvious? :-] As Eddie Izzard would say 'It makes no sense!'
Cimber 20 August 2009 at 8:53pm Posts: 2570 (0 today) Status: offline
I always thought, he was saying: "Shake the monkey, shake the monkey - kiss of life, kiss of life . . .
MAK in the USA 20 August 2009 at 8:56pm Posts: 3643 (3 today) Status: offline
Well, could be any of the above. . .I have no clue what he is saying! :-]

Sound like this to me. . . "Shakin' the bottle, shakin' the bottle, kiss of life, kiss of life" :-]

during my vinyl era, i attempted to limit the number of needle drops. but the "kiss of life" was an exception, which explains why i owned two copies of the album. this song was a complete fitness program as i used to dance along to it in my sound room. i imagined two cherub belly dancers atop my speakers accompanying me in this bizarre ritual dance.
Mozo Is Here 21 August 2009 at 7:26pm Posts: 1077 (0 today) Status: offline
maybe robust was a better term to describe the dancers. "see me a big woman, big woman look how you dance."
MAK in the USA 21 August 2009 at 7:34pm Posts: 3643 (3 today) Status: offline
Mozo. . . :-] :-] :-] Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that one! Are you a musician Mozo. . .you mentioned sound room?
Mozo Is Here 21 August 2009 at 7:57pm Posts: 1077 (0 today) Status: offline
nope. played saxophone in band for a couple of years. my sound room was devoted to music appreciation, and housed my stereo, posters, etc. i think they would call it a "man cave" nowadays but without the flat panel TV.
