Forums » Music » DVD reissues - Digipaks replaced by Amaray boxes

When the Play DVD first came out, it came in a nice gatefold sleeve. I've been waiting for a price drop - but now the DVD is hard to find. Seems like the old stock has been replaced by an ordinary Amaray plastic case. Online stores only list one version with the same catalogue number, but I am 100% that there are different products out there. The same thing happened with the Growing Up Live DVD. I was lucky enough to get an old stock version with the Digipak still sealed. Now you'll only find Amaray boxes on the shelves. I think the Still Growing Up DVD is affected by this, too. Not sure whether they actually put it out as a Digipak version? Maybe it was released as an Amaray box from the start. can someone shed some light onto this please? This is a collector's nightmare.

"I think the Still Growing Up DVD is affected by this, too. Not sure whether they actually put it out as a Digipak version?" Unfortunately I can only answer the above question, to which the answer is yes; they did at least initially put it out as a Digipak version. With best regards, Antti

Thankfully I got a copy of the Play digipak DVD from an Austrian shop: http://www.dvdparadies.at/artikel.aspx?art=89635 I also obtained the digipak of the Still Growing Up Tour on eBay, but I am still unsure if there is a Amaray version out there to begin with. Either way, I'm happy with this purchase. The seller has several copies available, check out item #120249141175. He is also selling the Play DVD but I did not get to ask him if that was the digipak. Maybe it is.

Glad to hear that you found a Digipak. I do not know about Still Growing Up, but I have indeed seen the "Play" DVD only in Amaray nowadays. I myself have "Growing Up Live", "Play" and "Still Growing Up" in Digipak, but I remember buying them the moment they came out so I did not have to deal with the Digipak/Amaray issue. I fear that they have switched the new stock to Amaray, but this is only my uneducated guess based on "Play". There is a boxset with both the Growing Ups and Play packed into one three-disk set. I would guess they are all in Amarays? Do you know? With best regards, Antti

Do you happen to mean this box set? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Peter-Gabriel-Play-Growing-Up/dp/B000JCDTRU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1211924215&sr=1-5 Seems like the one above does not feature Still Growing Up, so only 2 discs. As far as the packing goes, I cannot tell if it is Amaray or Digipak. The picture is really low resolution, and I have yet to see it on the shelves. Regardless, I think it is safe to say that the Amarays are replacing the Digipaks sooner or later. Same thing happened with the Best of Bowie DVD set. Thank you for your comments. I was in fear I was the only person who cared about this hah. P. S.: Nice avatar.
