No Self Control

Released 5th May, 1980

No Self Control was the second single to be taken from Peter’s third solo album and it was released in May 1980.

The song was written by Peter, produced by Steve Lillywhite, engineered by Hugh Padgham and recorded at Ashcombe House near Bath, using the Manor Mobile, and at The Townhouse in London.

Notable contributions to the track come from Phil Collins on drums, Robert Fripp on guitar and Kate Bush on backing vocals.

The single cover is another image by Hipgnosis that utilises the Les Krims-inspired method of manipulating a polaroid picture from an SX-70 camera.

The single first charted in the UK on 10 May 1980, peaked at 33 and stayed in the UK Top75 for six weeks.

No video was made for the song, though Peter did memorably perform it on Top of the Pops for the show broadcast on 15 May 1980. Also on the same programme were Roxy Music, Squeeze, Whitesnake and The Beat.
(The video below contains third party content of the programme Top of the Pops 2, that we do not own or control).

The single was only released on 7″ vinyl.
