With only one week to go until this year’s WOMAD Festival, preparations are in full swing at Real World HQ and the festival site at Charlton Park.
2016’s celebration of music, arts and dance sees a fantastic line up with sounds from all over the globe.
Across the weekend artists from 47 countries will be performing, holding workshops and even cooking their way through the festival. The line up includes the godfather of psychedelic funk George Clinton; Songhai by Toumani Diabate, Juan & Josemi Carmona & Javier Colina; the Hot 8 Brass Band from New Orleans, reggae queen Dawn Penn, Senegalese singer and musician Baaba Maal, American singer-songwriter John Grant, sitar player Anoushka Shankar and many more. After 10 years at Charlton Park the festival site has been refreshed, so expect some exciting new changes. The arboretum has been integrated more closely with the main arena, stages moved around, plus a bandstand, village pub and a new Physics Pavilion have been introduced.
