Today, Thursday 21st September, is the International Day of Peace, and The Elders #WalkTogether campaign will kick-off a month of action leading up to an event in London in late October.
As part of the campaign you can watch as Mary Robinson and Ernesto Zedillo join former child soldier Emmanuel Jal to discuss how citizens and communities can #WalkTogether to cultivate peace on this live stream for 5pm EDT / 10pm UK.
As world leaders, major philanthropic institutions and civil society descend on New York City for the UN General Assembly to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals, Peace is at its most fragile in decades. The Elders consider Peace to be the ultimate freedom. But to realise this freedom, there is a responsibility for all citizens to engage in the public sphere, not withdraw into apathy or virtual echo chambers. We want to send a loud message to citizens and leaders everywhere that Peace matters and that there are many Sparks of Hope we can celebrate who are working courageously with others in their communities – even those that are different to them – to realise the conditions for Peace.
