‘Dead Hand’, the opening episode of the sixth and final season of hit US TV show The Americans features Peter’s song We Do What We’re Told (milgram’s 37) and premieres in the USA on FX today, Wednesday 28 March (10pm e/p).

It is the fourth Peter Gabriel song to be used by the programme; “it’s hard not to keep returning to his catalogue because his music is so harmonious with the tone of the show,” say music supervisors P.J. Bloom and Amanda Krieg Thomas who have also used Games Without Frontiers, Here Comes the Flood and Lay Your Hands on Me in previous seasons.

The Americans is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. during the Reagan administration. The arranged marriage of Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but as the pressures and demands of the job grow heavier, the personal toll becomes almost too exhausting to bear.
