The Great Get Together

“The recent terrible events in Manchester and London and this week’s tragic fire at Grenfell Tower have deeply shocked us all and irrevocably changed many people’s lives. These horrific events have all been met by acts of kindness and generosity that show who we really are and could be, much more of the time. In such dark days it is wonderful to see such a sense of community and determination in the face of such horror.

It is a year ago today that Jo Cox was murdered and, having been lucky enough to know her a little, the news of her death was devastating. Jo was an inspiring person to meet, committed to making the world a better place, embracing the things we have in common rather than the things that divide us.

It is in this spirit that her family have organised The Great Get Together this weekend which gives a chance to bring our communities together. It’s a fitting way to commemorate not only Jo’s death but all those who have been affected by recent horrific events.”
