Celebrating Youssou N’Dour this weekend

Youssou N’Dour has been awarded the 2013 Polar Music Prize – Sweden’s most prestigious award for musicians. Coinciding with this, BBC 4 television are airing two programmes on Youssou tonight starting at 9.40pm. The first is called Youssou N’Dour: Voice of Africa, an hour long documentary telling the life story of the renowned Senegalese singer/composer and featuring contributions from Peter. This will be followed by a full live performance taken from his 2003 European tour, filmed at the Union Chapel in London.

Youssou N’Dour features on the forthcoming DVD/Bluray release of Peter Gabriel: Live in Athens 1987 which is released on 16th September. The double disc will include his full opening support set at the open-air theatre in the Greek capital – fully restored and remixed from the original film. Youssou’s participation in the 1987 So tour cemented his reputation as one of the most important new wave of African artists, his duet with Peter on ‘In Your Eyes’ is one of the highlights of the whole show.
