Thomas Mapfumo is again at odds with the regime of his beloved country. Just as his songs once spoke of rebellion in Rhodesia, today he remains resolutely a man of the people - rallying their street-level support in the struggle against the new tyranny of Mugabe. There is no immediate prospect of a return home from his adopted base in Eugene, Oregon, where he recorded 'Rise Up', his new Real World Records release.

This moth's clip has flying bottles, breaking legs, a little of showing off, some 'Games' in The Big Room back in 2003 and the odd glimps of the moon as it raced overhead on it's way to this month's lunar peak.

Apologies for our absence since around 6.30 PM on Thursday evening - our ISP was the victim of a "malicious attack" on the fiber running into their hosting center, and it's taken around 48 hours to get all the wires stitched back together. Hopefully normal service is now resumed.

Peter didn't get back from his travels in time to give us news hot from the press for this lunar cycle, but he had recorded this timely piece about the recording studios.

Peter steers us on a journey from fur to feathers in the boat like "Big Room", with appearances from one or two faces you may recognize, the amazing new Solid State Logic XL900, Finnish group Värttinä and Adrian Sherwood's live mix on the room's old console. We've thrown in a swan or two and a live snippet of "Burn You Up, Burn You Down" for good measure.

Gillian Caldwell, Executive Director of Witness gives us an update on Peter's recent trip to Washington DC.

"WITNESS co-founder Peter Gabriel visited Washington, DC's Capitol Hill for a screening and briefing of partner Burma Issues' new video, "Season of Fear." The video exposes the impact of the Burmese military regime's attacks on internally displaced people. In the briefing, co-sponsored by Senators Feinstein (D-CA) and McConnell (R-KY), Peter supported our allies in their call for a binding United Nations Security Council resolution on Burma that would include a call for a transition to the democratically-elected government in Burma.

While Peter was in the U.S. we were interviewed on CNN's "American Morning" program with Miles O'Brien, which will broadcast on Monday, April 10th, 2006 at 9:45am E.S.T. If you are outside the US, please look for CNN International's pick-up of the "American Morning" interview. Peter also spoke to the American public television program "NOW with David Brancaccio" about WITNESS' work, as well as his lifelong activism and interest in participatory media. "NOW with David Brancaccio" will devote its entire broadcast to this interview on Friday, April 21, 2006, at 8:30pm on PBS (check local listings at www.pbs.org). We hope that you will be able to tune-in."

Peter Gabriel will visit the U.S. Senate on April 4th to host a film screening and discussion on the need for U.S. support in ending egregious human rights abuses in the Southeast Asian country of Burma. Gabriel plans to press for U.S. leadership in passing a UN Security Council resolution on Burma.

Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the authors of the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act, will host the event.

We caught up with Peter for an update as he landed from his most recent travels. We're in the process of some long overdue housekeeping, finding the dead-ends and removing the word 'new' from pages mentioning 'UP'. Shock - horror, we've even removed the gold and platinum teaser from the Full Moon Club sign-up. More changes are coming, and hopefully you'll all see the benefits of the updates.

The Full Moon Club was initially a place to promote UP, but as time moves on it is now becoming the home of exclusive 'members' content - the stuff you have to log-in to see. Hopefully the end result will be a site that's easier to navigate. This may help to explain why the Forums have vanished from The Full Moon Club Menu - you don't have to be a member to read them. Tina has moved into The Full Moon Club - as she offers some pretty good prizes in her monthly competitions we felt it only fair that entrants were in the club..it's free after all.

We've just launched the 'beta' version of our remix site realworldremixed.com

The idea is to open up some of the music from Real World to a new audience, getting more people to throw their creativity into the mix. We've launched with two great sample packs from Los De Abajo and The Afro Celt Sound System for you to remix. The site lets you upload your finished mix, which hopefully you will see climbing our chart. Ther's already one remix on the site, so sign-up and let us know what you think.

The Frankfurt Music Prize was founded in 1980 and is awarded annually by the Trustees of the Frankfurt Music Prize Foundation on the occasion of the international Musikmesse in Frankfurt (Kurato-rium Stiftung Frankfurter Musikpreis zur Inter-nationalen Musikmesse Frankfurt) to personalities from the world of music for special achievements in the fields of interpretation, composition, musicology and teaching.

Peter will be accepting the award on March 28th.
