WOMAD turns 25 in 2007! To help mark the 25th anniversary of our first event in Shepton Mallet we are launching WOMADstories.com, a new website.
WOMADstories.com hopes to gather your memories from the past 25 years of events. We want to capture some of the great moments of energy and excitement, the memories that stick with you from WOMAD over the years. We're hoping to hear from people all around the world and discover the highlights of a quarter of a century of the World of Music, Arts and Dance - great music, amazing performances, sunny days, fantastic samosas, illuminating workshops, strange encounters - whatever your memory, we'd love you to share it.
We hope the website will bring together people who have experienced the WOMAD festival spirit in all of its locations around the world - so, please upload your story, add photographs, rate and comment on other WOMADstories. We really want to hear what WOMAD means to you, and sharing your memories will help us develop the WOMAD community around the world.
So get writing and send in your stories - the best one we receive before 30th June this year will win a pair of tickets to a WOMAD event of your choice anywhere in the world within the next year!
Members of The Full Moon Club can now vote for their dream set for this summer's Peter Gabriel dates - you can put your set-list together on your profile page.
We've also just improved the video solution for The Full Moon Club updates, farewell QuickTime, hello Flash. Hopefully it should now be easier to watch the updates. Only May's update is currently in the new format.
Peter talks about Sardinia, tour plans, WE7, remixing and gardening by the moon. Traces of Richard Blair's remix of Bashi-Bazouk from 1992's 'Digging In The Dirt' CD single can be herard and a sprightly blackbird keeps watch on spring at Real World.
The set list voting system Peter mentions is currently being screwed together here in the multimedia caves - if the coffee doesn't run out we should have it ready very soon.
Visit Tina's pages for her latest PG update, a new competition and the results of the last.
We have no idea what these recordings sound like, but 'The George Lamb Show' on BBC 6music have contacted us to say they will be playing some live tracks from Peter's 1979 appearance at Reading Festival on Tuesday May 8th.
The tracks Biko - Moribund The Burgermeister - Solsbury hill - On The Air - DIY - were recorded at Reading Festival in 1979 and feature Phil Collins on drums will go out until May 8th, between 00:20 and 00:50 BST on Tues night/Weds Morning.
Those who can't pick up BBC digital broadcasts throug DAB or Freeview can listen via Real Player on the BBC site.
Stadtpark Open Air, Brescia Piazza Duomo and Gelsenkirchen dates have been added to the Live page.
In this month's update Peter talks about WOMAD, tour dates, song lists, cello playing birds and the sounds of Rabbit Proof Fence. The Elders and Witness catch a break and spring is in the air.
Music is from Martyn Bennett's remix of 'Sky Blue', 'Crossing The Salt Pan' from Peter's soundtrack to 'Rabbit Proof Fence' - 'The Long Walk Home' and 'Salala' from Angelique Kidjo featuring Peter's vocals.
Peter Gabriel will perform at Rock Werchter on Saturday June 30. Earlier performances at Werchter: 1983 + 1987 +1994.
Change is afoot at petergabriel.com, as DNS servers around the world pick up on our move to a new server you should begin to see what we mean. We've got more work to do, particularly with our audio and video assets, but with the impetus of the live dates this summer we thought it was time to make the leap.
Hopefully you'll find the site easier and faster to use and enjoy the improved features - personal avatar upload in the forums is probably one that regular user will notice first, so we're looking forward to seeing you, and hearing what you make of the site.
If you're a Peter Gabriel fan that knows their lyrics, you should head over to Tina's Fan Attic for her new competion and monthly update.
As you may have seen details are beginning to emerge about some live dates that Peter is going to perform this summer - this list is far from complete, but so far we have:
Hyde Park Calling on Saturday 23rd June on a bill with Crowded House, The Feeling and Ghosts. Tickets on-sale March 21st.
Blickling Hall, Norwich 21st July. 6PM. Tickets on sale March 30th.
WOMAD Charlton Park on Friday on Friday 27th of July Peter says: "It has been wonderful to see what has happened with WOMAD over the last 25 years. It is different from any other festival I've ever been to, and although I usually get to enjoy it from the audience rather than the stage, I am delighted to come back as a performer for this 25th anniversary."
more dates coming soon.......
"I was asked to do some singing and try a few things on a lovely track called 'Salala', by Angelique Kidjo. Her record company are now looking for some remixes and I just thought we'd throw it out to see if any of you were interested to try your magic hands on this material" Peter Gabriel
Even if you don't fancy your remixing skills you can take a trip over to the download page and hear the track - The album Dijn Dijn is due out on May 1st.
This update brings talk of an emptier, more 'stripped-back' approach to audio in his current studio work, birthday gifts and high praise for the meastro of the upright bass Danny Thompson.
Talk of Danny gives us the opportunity to pull out a clip of him performing with The Blind Boys of Alabama as part of the very special line-up they put together for the "Spirit Of The Century' tour in 2001. The track featured is "Run On" and showcases lead vocals from the now sadly deceased and much missed a founding member George Scott along with other guest luminaries, blues guitarist John Hammond and drummer Michael Jerome
This update also features 'Setal' from Daby Touré's new CD "Stereo Spirit' - Daby say's of the track, it's "A song about the mystery of the beautiful world in which we live. Look at the universe, the sky, the animals, the plants, we have all this to be happy for." - so it's a fitting addition as spring begins to show itself around the studios"
"If the clouds stay away, it will be fascinating to watch the Moon's graceful movement through the shadow of the Earth," said Robin Scagell, from the Society for Popular Astronomy.
The eclipse began at 2018 GMT, with the Moon totally immersed in the shadow of the Earth between 2244 and 2358 GMT.
The eclipse is visible from the whole of Europe, Africa, South America, and eastern parts of the US and Canada.
