Peter will be playing at the United Nations 60th anniversary event (to benefit malaria research) which is to be held on the 8th of October in Geneva. He will only be performing on the night of the 8th and we do not know which songs as yet. However, Don't Give Up and Biko are possibilities...

September's lunar height is upon us and to mark it's arrival we have pulled another demo from Peter's studio archive.

Having spent most of the month working on the new DVD "Still growing Up: Peter Gabriel Live and Unwrapped",(some versions of which are now available for pre-order in WOMADShop with a free tour T-shirt thrown in) it's been amazing to see how this 1998 demo of ‘The Tower’ evolved through OVO and The Millennium Dome Show, into the version performed on the recent tour; and now DVD, so powerful 'That Ate People' should rightly be appended to it's name.

Anyway, it's late and we've seen it on Amazon already, which is somewhere between exciting and worrying when your still trying to make the thing...Can these two tracklistings be correct....what does it all mean?

Greetings lunatics,

We must apologise for the relatively sparse nature of posts on the site of late. It's been all hands to the pumps here as we work on two new double DVD sets - "Africa Calling - Live 8 at Eden" and 'Peter Gabriel Still Growing Up, Live and Unwrapped" - watch this space for more on these DVDs. All I can say is that we are pumping hard, but the water's still up around our necks.

We have however found a moment to mark the the full ripeness of the moon which should be sailing overhead some time this evening, and it should be noted that this months choice of a 'Darkness' demo is no reflection on the generally light and summery mood at Real World. This rendering of the track dates from 1996 and is relatively early in it's life-cycle, coming before the band have played a note on the track.

Tina has also made an update to her pages, so why not download some Darkness and ponder the origins and meaning of lines like “…did I dream this belief? Or did I believe this dream?

it seems you have to wait late into this July's pink evening to catch a glimpse of the full moon. As a libation to the ears of all dedicated moon watchers we offer you 'Signal To Noise'

This months track is a demo from around 1998. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's vocal from the VH1 honours concert performance is already in place and inspiring Peter to explore new grooves and vocal harmonies, but the strings to be heard on the final version released on 'UP' were as yet unrealised.

If June's Full Moon is anything like last night's lunar glow, we should have a bright night about to bleed into the sun-drenched day here at Real World. Unfortunately we haven't been able to get Peter and a camera in the same place, but he has sent us a lunar offering.

NASA tells us that tonight, "the Man in the Moon is in his usual place. But something's wrong. This full moon is strangely inflated. It's huge! ...This week's full moon hangs lower in the sky than any full moon since June 1987, so the Moon Illusion is going to be extra strong." I'm personaly not suprised by this offical confirmation that there's a man in the moon, but see what you think for yourself and glance skyward this evening. Why not enhance the strange, inflated, huge, "moon illusion" with our sky related audio offering.

Industry visionaries acquire the world’s leading console company

A Live8 Event

The Eden Project is to stage a major Live8 concert on 2nd July under the banner of “Africa Calling”.

The event will be programmed and presented in association with WOMAD and its co-founder Peter Gabriel, together with Senegalese superstar Youssou N’Dour.

The evening itself will be hosted by Peter Gabriel, who has championed World Music for the past 25 years. Youssou N’Dour and Peter Gabriel have invited many of their favourite African artists to perform at the event.

These include the gutsy and charismatic West African vocalist/songwriter Angelique Kidjo, Somalia's powerful and dynamic female vocalist Maryam Mursal, and Salif Keita, who has earned himself the title of the Golden Voice of Africa.

Also appearing will be Zimbabwe-born musical and political hero Thomas Mapfumo with his group the Blacks Unlimited; Tinariwen, a Touareg group from the southern Sahara; award-winning Senegalese hip hop group Daara J; Arab-Andalusian singer and musician Akim El Sikameya; engaging and dynamic South African singers and dancers Shikisha; Kenyan lyre player and singer Ayub Ogada; and Modou Diouf & O Fogum, bringing intoxicating Sabar drum rhythms and unbelievable dance.

The concert will be held on the stage in the Eden arena with the world’s biggest greenhouses providing a spectacular backdrop in the crater.
This outstanding line-up will bring the Eden site alive with unbeatable African party spirit. Transmissions will be made from the event by the BBC as part of the Live8 celebration.

The legendary Done & Dusted production team of Hamish Hamilton, Ian Stewart and Simon Pizey, whose collective credits include U2, Madonna, Kylie and Robbie Williams, have kindly volunteered to film the event.

Midge Ure was keen to get WOMAD’s involvement from the start of the campaign, and met with WOMAD several weeks ago to discuss featuring prominent African artists as part of the Live 8 events including the concert at Murrayfield on 6 July.

WOMAD was founded in 1982 by Peter Gabriel and WOMAD’s artistic director Thomas Brooman with the aim of bringing artists together from all over the world to reach new audiences. Since 1982 WOMAD has presented more than 150 festivals and events in 26 countries and islands.

Eden’s chief executive Tim Smit was glad to become involved in providing an extended platform for African artists as part of the series of events, and said today: “We are huge fans of Live8 and the agenda that is so brilliantly driven by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure.

“The idea to host the concert came out of a conversation with Oxfam representatives when we hosted one of the Make Poverty History events at Eden in May.

Eden is involved in several projects with African partners and in its giant conservatories exhibits almost all the crops that form the basis to so many of the trade issues central to the Make Poverty History agenda.

Eden’s involvement with music has seen four sell-out seasons of the acclaimed Eden Sessions – featuring artists from WOMAD, Brian Wilson, Pulp, Moby, and coming in August, fellow Live8-ers Keane and Basement Jaxx.
