Can you spare a moment to help us build a buzz around 'Flume'?
Peter took a moment away from all things 'Scratch My Back' to introduce some of the music from Real World Records that's been filling his ears over the winter months.
Peter introduces music from Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara's 'Trance Sessions', Portico Quartet's 'Isla', Spiro's 'Lightbox', Charlie Winston's 'Hobo', The Black Swan Effect, Tom Kerstens' 'Utopia', the upcoming Syriana project and Toumast's upcoming 'Amachal'.
It looks like we are going to have some tickets available to Full Moon Club members from Saturday 6th February, a little ahead of the various other promotions that will be happening. We'll have a number of standard tickets as well as some special access packages - similar to those we have had available in Europe.
We'll keep you posted.
The first remixes of 'Not One Of Us' have begun to arrive at Real World Remixed. We're looking forward to hearing more as they land.
Peter is appearing live on The One Show tomorrow evening at 7pm GMT BBC 1
...the sound of this cover, like the sound of Bon Iver's album, needs no external narrative to resonate, its affect achieved upon hearing the painterly piano and brass over which Peter first bursts, widescreen, into that chorus. "Only love is all maroon." But it's not only love that's all maroon -- so is the heart of this cover album's cover art. Fitting, somehow. You should hear it:
Peter Gabriel's cover of 'The Book of Love' and Stephin Merritt's of The Magnetic Fields' reciprocal cover of 'Not One Of Us' are released today as a 'Digital 45' on iTunes.
It should be in all iTunes stores, but the method of linking internationally seems to be eluding us at present. We've added a couple of links, but a search elsewhere on 'the book of love / Not one Of Us' should get you there.
Lately more a technology guru than a singer, he now has a new CD - Scratch My Back is a covers album with a difference
Peter Gabriel's 'Not One of Us' is taken from one of Q Magazine's top 100 Greatest British Albums. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, this album of May 1980 features Jerry Marotta and Phil Collins drumming, the guitar of Robert Fripp, David Rhodes, Paul Weller and XTC's Dave Gregory. The album produced the 1980 hit single "Games Without Frontiers", and the anthemic "Biko".
'Not One Of Us' is made available here as part of Peter's 'Scratch My Back' project of reciprocal covers. On the record of the same name Peter has covered 'The Book of Love' by The Magnetic Fields, in return Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic fields chose to cover 'Not One Of Us'. In the spirit of the project Peter is making his original version available to the wider world here on Real World Remixed.
Remixes of 'Not One Of Us' will be part of a competition - details of which we can't yet reveal.
Peter Gabriel's January update coincides with the release today of the first Double A-side, Digital 45 from the 'Scratch My Back' project on ITunes . We hear from Peter about his version of 'The Book Of Love', and from the writer of that track, Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields, we hear about his cover of Peter's 'Not One Of Us'.
Along the way there is also news of release dates, tour dates and a chance to be part of the project at Real World Remixed, where on a packed full moon, 'Not One Of Us' has just been made available to remixers.
We also get a snippet of 'Heroes' from the 'Scratch' project, with an update on its availability as part of a download in aid of Haiti earthquake victims.
A quick recap of all three podcasts for those who don't want to subscribe.
A first chance to hear Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields with his version of 'Not One Of Us', with an introduction from the man himself.
"Peter's version of 'Not One Of Us' showcases his singing voice , whereas my version showcases this evil dwarf choir...my version sounds very 1981 and his sounds futuristic."
The track is released as a double a-side 'digital 45' on iTunes this Saturday, with Peter's version of 'The Book of love' by The Magnetic Fields. You 'Scratch My Back' and I'll scratch yours in action.
