Peter Gabriel covers Bon Iver (Stereogum Premiere)

...the sound of this cover, like the sound of Bon Iver's album, needs no external narrative to resonate, its affect achieved upon hearing the painterly piano and brass over which Peter first bursts, widescreen, into that chorus. "Only love is all maroon." But it's not only love that's all maroon -- so is the heart of this cover album's cover art. Fitting, somehow. You should hear it:

Be part of 'Scratch My Back' Remix 'Not One Of Us'

Peter Gabriel's 'Not One of Us' is taken from one of Q Magazine's top 100 Greatest British Albums. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, this album of May 1980 features Jerry Marotta and Phil Collins drumming, the guitar of Robert Fripp, David Rhodes, Paul Weller and XTC's Dave Gregory. The album produced the 1980 hit single "Games Without Frontiers", and the anthemic "Biko".

'Not One Of Us' is made available here as part of Peter's 'Scratch My Back' project of reciprocal covers. On the record of the same name Peter has covered 'The Book of Love' by The Magnetic Fields, in return Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic fields chose to cover 'Not One Of Us'. In the spirit of the project Peter is making his original version available to the wider world here on Real World Remixed.

Remixes of 'Not One Of Us' will be part of a competition - details of which we can't yet reveal.

It should be in all iTunes stores, but the method of linking internationally seems to be eluding us at present. We've added a couple of links, but a search elsewhere on 'the book of love / Not one Of Us' should get you there.

A first chance to hear Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields with his version of 'Not One Of Us', with an introduction from the man himself.
